“ Design is not just what it looks like and feels like, design is how it works “ – Steve Jobs
about me Saghar Nejad has been involved in the field of Interior Design and Architecture by studying and working for more than 6 years. She found her interest in this field as early as her high school years and started pursuing her dreams by taking after school architecture classes. Later, she completed her certificate of Interior Design at British Columbia Institute of Technology and after she achieved her Bachelors Degree of Interior Design at the Art Institute of Vancouver. While studying she was volunteering for Interior Designer Institute of British Columbia (IDIBC) and working in a multi-discipline firm; Engineering, Architecture, and Design. It was interesting for her to see how these three work hand in hand and how balance between function and beauty is important. Saghar keeps herself up to date with interior and architecture news and tips and new softwares such as; Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe suite. Her creativity stems from her experiences and exposure living in four different countries. Being mobile opened her eyes to new design and culture, which allows a widespread approach of variety in her designs. Saghar is very passionate about what she does and it keeps growing everyday.

Institutional Design Gleneagles Ch’axáý Elementary School
Softwares used on This Project This project was done with Revit, Cloud Rendering, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Morpholio.
Client Profile - About the School Gleneagles Ch’axáy is an Elementary school located in West Vancouver close to Horseshoe bay, which was originally Squamish Nation land in 1950s; therefore, the school’s-built environment is built a way appreciating their original tradition and culture. It is surrounded by Gleneagles Golf Course, the Upper Levels Highway and Howe Sound. The school is well-known for its arts and music. It has 13 classrooms, a sophisticated music room, a large learning common, a dedicated art room, and a gym with a stage. Students have access to a large gravel playing field, two adventure playscapes, various asphalt play areas and a beautiful wooded area. Gleneagles students are blessed in having convenient walking access to beaches, ferries to Langdale, Bowen Island and Nanaimo, Horseshoe Bay, and various hiking trails. It is a beautiful site in a forested neighborhood, which requires a major renovation in order to upgrade the school and rejuvenate. By integrating the Squamish nation-built environment priorities, tradition, culture, and the community’s needs. The goal of this project is to respect the built environment and the culture of the Squamish nation, yet building a calm and peaceful environment for the kids to feel comfortable, and to take advantage of the mesmerizing nature around the school to make this school refreshing, uplifting, and and a HOME for Gleneagles students.
Barks of Arbutus Tree The concept of this project is the Bark of Arbutus Tree, the idea behind this comes from the magnificent natural environment around the school. This gives the school a context; the fact that the students are fortunate to be surrounded by this beauty. The Arbutus Tree is Canada’s only native broad-leafed evergreen tree, it is a endless tree with fascinating long curvy barks that grows regularly in Vancouver. The main colors of the Arbutus Tree are; green, yellow, orange, red, and beige: all colors that are calming and pleasing to the eye. The interesting fact about the bark of Arbutus tree is that its appearance depends on its age every year as they grow, its skin peels and its color changes. This is similar to children’s characteristic, since their appearance and personality changes rapidly in their elementary years.

Commercial Design Half Moon
Softwares used on This Project This project was done with Autocad, Sketchup, Podium, Photoshop, and Morpholio.
Client Profile Two friends who always enjoyed cooking finally decided to invest into opening up their own local Vancouver based restaurant. They wanted to have it, where it’s high traffic and at the same time the rent not too expensive, since it’s their first restaurant, therefore the place is right next to Gastown, which both tourists and locals go to. Also, since Vancouver has very diverse residents, the clients requested to have multiple different atmospheres in one space for customers to feel comfortable whether it’s for drinking, dinning, or café style.
Concept The concept of “Half Moon” restaurant is to provide multiple atmospheres in one space to offer varieties of comfort zones for each individual customer. Whether if it’s a bar setting, high-end dining, or cozy outdoor aesthetic lounge. With incorporating abstract fractal geometric patterns Saghar complied a modern diverse full-height wall as a focal point of the entire restaurant but the restaurant is divided into three main sections: Bar area, Lounge area, and Dining area. Each of this separate rooms are meant to be treated a different way in order to provide different quality and touch for customers. The bar area provide a chic but at the same time less formal than the rest of the restaurant for younger crowd to hangout with a small entertainment area. The lounge area, I have achieved the outdoor ambiance by incorporating A series of biophilic design, fireplace for its warmth and coziness, open skylight along with the furniture setting. Lastly, the dining area reclaims an enclosed look with dim lighting and lower ceiling in order to feel more private and luxurious. The fractal geometry is to mimic a distinct look. The concept here is to provide balanced design by contrasting multiple interior spaces into one.

03 Residential Design Butsugam Residence
Softwares used on This Project This project was done with Autocad, Sketchup, Podium, Photoshop, and Morpholio.
Client Profile This is a waterfront luxury penthouse with view of the English Bay Beach surrounded by the city skyline is just the first of many highlights you’ll see at Butsugam’s residence. It’s located right along English Bay with 360 water view in Downtown Vancouver. Mr. and Mrs.Butsugam are a very young couple and this house is their second get away house and they want to feel their own personal retreat.
Coastal Retreat The coastal retreat concept takes inspiration from the home’s expansive landscape and ocean views. The foundation is a neutral palette of sandy taupes, pebble grays and creamy whites accentuated by tones of blue, green and rose. Each volume of space is complimented by unique functional areas that create visual interest inviting family and friends to explore.
