TURNING BACK THE CLOCK WHO is the Golfer from the past?

• Our mystery golfer was an American Canadian amateur, she was born on September 5, 1897 and passed away on April 15, 1977.

• She won the U.S. Women’s Amateur golf championship in 1916, 1919, and 1920.

• She won the Canadian Women’s Amateur title in 1920 and 1934.

• She became one of the famous “Dixie Kids”, a group of young Southern golfers which included her long-time friend Bobby Jones, Elaine Rosenthal, and Perry Adair, who toured around the United States, giving golf exhibitions to raise money for the Red Cross.

• She was also a skilled and enthusiastic violinist.

• She was posthumously inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1978, the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame in 1986, and the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in 1989.

• Stephanie Sparks portrayed her in the 2004 film, Bobby Jones: A Stroke of Genius.
