01 HUMANIZING THE HIGH RISE Spread over a site of 5.35 acres and built up area of 79,548sqm, a mixed use highrise building located on Mysore Road, just 100 metres from the Mysore Road Metro Station. The podium consists of retail outlets and food court while the tower has a combination of small, medium and big offices. Since the highway connects Bangalore and Mysore- two of the IT capitals in Karnataka, it acts as an ideal location for offices. The idea of the high rise was to keep in mind the human scale, so as to not intimidate the user but to make them feel comfortable. The high rise has a proportion that slowly increases as it goes up to allow interaction with the user even at the street level. The tower has atriums next to the lift lobby so that the user will have a sense of their surroundings.

SERVICES The services are the most essential part of a high rise. The service core not only provides services but also stability to the core. The services are planning keeping in mind the population of the building as well as on each floor and the access from the site. The building has a split core on the south end so it blocks the harsh south light. Out of two cores, only on of them continues all the way to the top of the tower. The lift lobby and fire staircase are fire rated. The exterior walls of the core are 450mm shear walls where as the interior walls as 300mm shear walls.

STRUCTURAL DESIGN The building is supported by a series of circular RCC columns and RCC post tensioned slabs. The east wall of the tower has a diagrid structure which is present to support the increasing floor plates. The load taken by the diagrid then goes through the transer floor which has diagrids as well as a Vierendeel truss. From the truss, the load is transferred to four 1.2Ă˜m columns which ultimately transfer the load to the foundation after passing through the basement. The basement has a coffered slab which is used to reduce the depth of the beam in the basement.

HONEY BASED START UP OFFICE An interior design project to design for a start up office that focuses on the marketing and selling of raw honey. The company specialises in manufacture of raw Indian honey. The products are available in selected stores, and can be customised and gifts for special occasions like festive, corporate, weddings and celebrations. The interiors have a strong accent of hexagons to symbolise the honeycomb structure. Warm colours of different types of honey were used with blue as a complementary colour.

HONEY BOTTLINGHoney is very diffcult to handle- simply poruing it from a big bottle to a smaller becomes messy and lead to fermentation of honey.

GRAPHIC DESIGN AND MARKETINGLabels, boxes, websites are designed and online marketing are done at the office.

DISCUSSION AND STRATERGYMarketing stratergy- who the customers are, which market, etc. are discussed in the office.

STORAGE FOR HONEYThe honey should be stored in cool and dry spaces to prevent the fermentation of honey. Around 50 bottles are stored in the office.

CLIENT MEETINGHoney R Us generally does gifting for Corporates and weddings. The meetings generally take place outside the office.

SHIPMENTShipment of honey to nearby locations are done from the office.

The floor plans have a strong use of hexagons to divide the spaces. The idea was to have free flowing spaces apart from certain activites that require privacy. The ground floor plan has marble flooring to complement the warm hues of yellow and brown, and highlight the blue accent. The meeting rooms and conference rooms are carpeted to help in sound absorption. On the other hand, the mezzanine floor has wooden flooring. There are hexagonal cut outs in the roof slab to allow interesting patterns to form on the walls and floors which change according to the sun’s path. The workstations are spaced out to allow for expansion

LIGHT AND SHADOW The front glass facade allows light to filter in to the display area and honey tasting bar. The hexagonal teak wood back lit panel create a sense of drama on the double height wall. The library acts as the main monumental feature in the campus. Located in the heart of the campus, it acts as a way finding element. The waterbody runs aroud the library- reiterating its importance. AUDITORIUM The auditorium is a multipurpose one. It is located near the entrance so as to prevent the entire campus from getting disturbed in case of any event. The auditorium is designed against the contours resulting in a semi covered informal space. The space is flexible and can be used for various activities while acting as a spill out space for the auditorium. The lobby of the auditorium is supported by RCC slanting columns and tree columns. The roof is made of trusses for its lightweight. Exposed concrete is used throughout the facade.

HOUSING PROJECT FOR SRISHTI STUDENT AND FACULTY Set in Yelahanka, the housing scheme was proposed to accommodate the students of Srishti School of Art and Design over an area of 2 acres and total built up area of 7.682 sqm. Aside from resodential spaces, the project required spaces that inspire creativity, social interaction and small display areas where exhibitions without disturbing the privacy of the residents. The complex consister of 16 units of row houses, 24 units in the apartment for the students and15 units in the apartment for faculty.

FLEXIBLITY The aim was to create versatile, flexible spaces to give students freedom to use the spaces as they wish. This was achieved by using steel columns and beams fitted with Japenese shoji screens which are sliding panels with glass and louvres. Thw workshops could also be divided in two parts or be combined as per the students wish.

DISASTER MANAGEMENT EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT BUILDING IN BANGALDESH A large proportion of the country side as well as the majority of urban areas in Bangladesh is flood prone. During heavy floods, more than 60% of the land is immersed in water. Recent floods have destroyed many houses and about 1 million people became homeless. There is a need for developing housing which is appropriate for flood prone areas, where the suggested solutions are cost effective. Wide cross sections of communities living in the predominantly flood prone rural areas of Bangladesh. Communities living in flood prone municipalities and areas under local government administration.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN URBAN PLAZA

The urban plaza is located at the centre of a habitat centre consisting of a library, auditorium, art gallery, government office, clock tower. The plaza is located at the centre and its radial organisation makes it act as the focal point of the site. It acts as a space to orient yourself and act as a landmark. People of all ages and sections of the society will use the plaza so comfort and safety were kept in mind while designing the plaza. It was also designed keeping in mind a variety of activities that it could be used for, pertaining to the different blocks in the habitat centre.
