On the ground floor lack of cross ventilation is balanced by using ventilators placed high above in the wall containing windows. The wall on the right side has recess used as storages and is connected with the neighbouring building. The porch on the entrance is used as not only a transition space but also a sleeping area, it acts as a buffer space and offers security. The house previously had 16 occupants and now it currently has 3 people living. The occupants previously had a bakery on the first floor and used the room on the far end as a storage for bread and other items. Other than the store room 1 other spaces are generally accessable and in close proximity according to their functions.

The first floor has 2 main rooms along with a balcony which acts a service area to wash clothes . The first floor has good crossventiation since it’s wall isnt abbutting any neighbouring walls The balcony on the first floor is attached to a small storage area to the bakery, and has a separate drainage which releases waste to the smaller road abbuting the larger side of the house near the back door. The first floor also has played with level differences and has exposed structural columns which add to the rustic feel of the house. There is a store room above the landing of the stairs which is accessable from the common room on the first floor

Sky lights play an important role in lighting the interior spaces in this building. The glass used initially is more stronger than what we get nowadays. The glass gives highly diffused light so that it doesn’t glare. Sufficient number of windows, courtyards and skylights are provided to get in ample light throughout the year. They face certain problems in terms of lighting in rainy season as they close their windows for protection from rain. The general layout of the mandapam is suitable to the needs of the occupants and structurally it is very sound as it was made during the british era. The planning is open in nature and has a loft in the rear of the structure which acts as a multipurpose space for the occupants.

The main gathering areas have good ventilation because of the employment of cross ventilation wheras the other small rooms do not have proper ventilation. The structure is featuring exposed structural columns, with centralized support system and use of thick steel beams and wooden joists allowing for superior support of the thick double brick walls.
