Vertical Farm + Multifaith Centre Design Proposal Term 2- Research and Design Studio Master of Architecture UNSW Project year- 2020 Site Area- 1.5 Acres
The project actively engages with the Living Building Challenge and explore ways in which it can contribute to improving the local and global ecosystem and people’s relationship with the earth and each other. The site sits right at the heart of The University of New South Wales that brings people together from all over the world, of all faiths, backgrounds, genders and cultures, in the pursuit of knowledge and understanding, to create a better world for all of us. It is a place of formation for individuals and for relationships. The Design is inclusive of an ecosystem in the heart of the UNSW campus that addresses three issues: 1. To create a place for people to come together in mutual support. 2. To create a place that helps people understand, respect and engage with different belief systems (science, faith based and non-faith-based systems) 3. To create a place that enhances the local and global environment and eco-systems. This project aims to create a place that simultaneously enables us to develop a deep sense of respect for the world, as an eco-system for other human beings.

Look around the world as we know, With faith lies chained to partiality. Reconsider the rules of religion we follow, Its principals we made so hollow. Breakfree the shackles, unchain the partiality And let’s celebrate earth as spirituality! Interact, observe, learn and respond, Multifaith is more than just rooms that correspond, Take the action! Take the leap! Study the human psychology, study the religion, Dive right back to basics we dug deep! I went back and forth to develop the model. An ensamble of synergies, an epitome of cultivation as a saddle. A structure rising to liturgy, A cathedral of growth! Commissioned by clergy, Knows when to bow forth. Bow to nature! Bow to food we need! And let the natural ecosystem follow the curvature, For its purpose to feed. Feed the people, feed the community, Let the religion ordain the fecundity. Paint the university green! Paint the it yellow! Just grow to the brim and enjoy its mellow. Together we stand in difficulty, Together we grow, together we share, Together lies the opportunity, That we all are waiting for! -Sahil Pasahan

The brief includes the addition of new block to existing office building on the left while keeping its external facade intact.
Dileanating the staggered North-West facade for distinct views, addition of green balconies and protection of direct sunlight thereby reducing the heat transfers
The South-East facade staggers to open its views to nearby Myrtle St. and not get blocked by residential buildings on the front
The roof form boldly rises to varied heights and angles to amplify the diffused light into the building and creating the dynamic play of light and shadow.
The grand interlace stairwell forms a common interaction datum among the varied end users at the different levels of the building.
The inner courtyard adds to another rendezvous with block connected by bridges above it
The North west facade creates the drama of the being emerging from the existing building facade through trapezoidal brick elements with the tectonics responding to the context.
The angular screen with circular patterns provides the visual buffer from the residences whilst allowing the non disruptive views to the street and peace park on the right

KEY MOVES Utilising the existing curvature and width for the existing Cairns esplanade boardwalk, extending this length in a north eastern direction, by a distance of approximately 250 metres. This creates a possible over-water building zone and a focal point for pedestrians in the open sea
Esplanade boardwalk Existing Yacht club
Creating a buildable zone between the existing North arm of the marina surround and the proposed extended esplanade boardwalk. This triangular site yields a site area at around 1800 m2
Create Site
Reproposing the existing part and hardscape area upon which the existing clubhouse is situated, as well as removing the existing clubhouse facility, yeilds an expanded hardstand area at around 2800 m2.

The existing boat ramp is proposed to be South of Salt bar with existing cars. West of salt bar reconfigured to allow for vehicle and trailer turning and parking .
Main Excess road Boat ramp
Existing vehicular access routes from the lagoon car park are retained. Removing existing berths and boat ramp to replace with large beach zone at possible length greater than 90 metres , provides and opportunity for smaller craft to enter and exit the water and place for relaxation and outdoor events.
