INCUBATION HUB

FOR MULTIMEDIA STARTUPS

/a rchitectu re Page 7

VISION

S TAT E M E N T

Exploring architectural design to develop ‘Incubation hub for multimedia startups’ as an ideal space for startups in the AVGC (Animation, VFX, Gaming & Comics) industry. Creating a whole new ecosystem for multimedia startup communities with a synergistic atmosphere that retains personal workspace exclusivity. It is developing a distinctive architectural typology that incorporates the various components of the incubation hub, helping to improve the general mass connections with the AVGC industry rather than confining them.

Zoning on the site is articulated to maintain the hierarchy of spaces. Commercial and hotel are designed as a central hub since they are public functions, therefore emphasizing and porosity. Housing as a private function is planned on the periphery providing it with the required privacy. Housing is zoned so that they enjoy & utilize most of the adjacent green spaces and views.

REIMAGINING SCHOOLS OF INDIA

VISION

S TAT E M E N T

“Children’s environment must be conceived of as a ‘world within a world’; it should be a special place with all the aspects that make the environment a rich landscape for exploration & play.” This is achieved through the idea of student-centered design, which provides a platform for students to participate and learn actively. An authentic livable & productive module may enhance and change the ideology of the school environment.

The linear form is broken into smaller units. The formation of cubes and cuboids with semi-open and open pockets in between adds value to the spaces knit around them. The final form with different levels is bound together with a central ring. The primary node (Ring) brings together learning, creating, and sharing spaces.

VISION

S TAT E M E N T

Social interactions at different levels strengthen the bond between the residents and contribute to natural surveillance. The staggered interaction patterns ensure the privacy of the individuals. The spaces & neighborhoods they are accustomed to are primarily socially interactive spaces. This is an attempt to keep alive the social interaction in the villages while incorporating the contemporary design language with a touch of traditionality. The traditional weave pattern has been integrated into the contemporary facade design, inspired by the locally famous Mangalagiri Handlooms. Locally available limestone & wood are used for external cladding, making the construction vernacular.

SUSTAINABLE BUILDING MATERIALS SEMINAR PAPER

/resea rch Page 33

ABSTRACT Materiality and embodied energy content in a building which includes its components, are ignored in the current dialogue of energy-saving options in a building. While it is vital to save energy through improved air-conditioning and lighting, it is equally important to reduce embodied energy content of buildings by reducing the quantum of cement, steel, glass, aluminum, and other materials that have high displayed energy and that require a considerable amount of energy to produce them. Sustainable materials that require less energy for production are not mainstreamed adequately. There is an absolute need of raising awareness on choosing sustainable building materials over conventional construction materials with a lousy impact on the climate.

Page 34

Sustainability index: The options for sustainable material available for any work (like walls, partitions, roofing, fenestration, etc.) are plenty. Each material can be evaluated on a set of criteria to determine if the use is sustainable. Each criterion would have a trade-off with other criteria in the collection. For example, a material with low embodied energy would not necessarily be low-cost or readily available. The need is to classify and prioritize each material within a product category with an eye on the concept of sustainability.

Sustainability Index Calculation Parameters

CONCLUSION Alternative sustainable construction materials can be used in construction which can come under either be modern or vernacular practice. Sustainable construction can also be achieved using Vernacular construction materials using technological advancements and newer ways of utilizing the same materials catering to current needs yet being sustainable. Extraction of Data from Images

CONCLUSION The present day image manipulation capabilities are widening up the feasibility of designing fictional architecture, which on the other hand tends to misguide the information. While this can be a wonderful opportunity in itself to bridge the communication between ideas and reality, between the experts and the general public, there is also ample scope for confusion and a distorted sense of expectations from the architectural profession as a whole. It is therefore, in conclusion, an architect’s individual choice of using the digital imagery available to them in the way that it can be used, to exploit it to its fullest potential, both as a medium of reading information as well as creating new information for others to read, both inside the profession and outside it as well, and the medium of the digital visual image remains, a vital component in the realm of design.
