Research Description
Herbalicious is an integrated simple product which is a combination of traditional and a modern technique (Hydroponics). It gives rise to a whole new approach of growing herbs at home.
Learnings
- Importance of a thorough research and user interaction - Analysis and integration in a simple design process Visited different people having kitchen gardens at home and organizations like “ek titli that help people to set up kitchen gardens etc. A detailed study of hydrponics - a method for growing plants without soil was done.
Ideation
Herbs and their requirements - Thrive in cooler spaces - Prefer a change in position - 4-5 hours of medium sunlight - About 4-5 inches of soil to grow and a minimum width of 3 inch for the roots to spread widely - Alongwith being healthy for the plants growth homemade nutrients and fertilizers are very easy, convenient and cost effective - Require companions to grow with them that builds up a favourable enviroment around them

Simple product design I Individual project I Duration-6 weeks
Conceptualization
Traditional gradening (Soil)
Hydroponics (Gardening without soil)
- Soil holds nutrients and anchors plant roots that develop a strong support system increasing the life of a herb
- Continuous pumping of industrially prepared water soluble nutrients to the roots via an electric motor thus requiring large capital
- Absorption of the trace nutrients found in soil by the roots
- Faster plant growth due to direct access of food and water through the roots but the roots become weak due to lack of support system

1.Companion herbs create a micro environment with a higher relative humidity. 2.They attract the necessary insects and microbes for their growth.
1.The wick is half immersed in water and half well inserted in the soil before planting the seeds. 2.The water is taken up to the soil by capilliary action keeping it moist. 3.The desired nutrients and flavour can be added daily in the form of water soluble nutrients prepared at home.It is a quick compost method.

Prototyping and validation Capilliary action
Growth rate of various herbs like dil, methi, etc.
Portability according to sun and shade
Homemade watersoluble nutrients
Experimented for taste and smell differences
Conclusion Herbalicious is a product which enables the user to experiment and encourages to grow nourishing herbs at home.It is modular, space saving and available in several colors.

Ideation
Description
The Playfuls is a family of small, colorful and funfilled puzzle containers that can be used to keep small things like collected stamps, coins, uclips, beads, etc.
Learnings
- Injection molding process feasibility and constraints - Joineries and fixtures involved
Final concept Section view of the assembly One basic unit that can be repeated no. of times to form interesting modules

1.
Applying the mirror effect, the projections and groves are arranged in such a way that when the container is flipped, the positions of the projections at the top merge with the groves at the bottom and the same happens viceversa. Projection
Groove
‘Dimensions in mm’ - 50 x 50 x 15 - Fillet radius-2
2. Detailed view of the snap and grove

First one side gets snapped and then the other. The same is applicable while opening the container
The Playfuls
Manufacturing processes I Individual project I Duration-1 week
- Several arrangements can be made with these colorful puzzle containers - They are not only fun to play with but can contain small precious things like collected coins, stamps etc. like a small safe
Material-Polypropylene Thickness-1.5mm Available in different colors
RPT model
1:1 scale model of the design was made by using the 3d printing process. Thus, alongwith understanding the injection molding process, rapid prototyping was also studied.
