2019

Pardon Our Progress! Eric Horell ’13, ’17 | Director of Alumni Engagement

Welcome back home! Alumni Weekend is one of Saint Francis University’s best

traditions, and we are thrilled to celebrate with you and your

classmates again this year. We have another packed weekend of

fun with something for everyone, and we can’t wait for you to

return to Loretto!

While back on campus, you’ll notice some exciting changes underway. The John F. Kennedy

Student Center is undergoing a large renovation project to be ready this fall when our students

return. DeGol Arena at the Maurice Stokes Athletics Center will soon have new bleachers and a new floor.

These improvements will benefit not only our students, but you and all alumni as well. With

construction underway, several Alumni Weekend events will be held in alternate locations,

providing us with an opportunity to hold the same events with new locations this year.

To accommodate these changes, we will have signage across campus to help direct you as well as an up-to-date schedule of events when you arrive at registration. And while some locations will be different, I’m happy to say that no events have been eliminated due to these

changes—we will still celebrate a full Alumni Weekend!

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time of University growth. I wish you safe travels on your journey back to Loretto! See you soon, Eric

Put your talents to work refreshing a beautiful part of our beautiful campus! Join the “Lourdes Army” in a special service project focusing on the Grotto and the Saint Francis Nature Trail. With the help and support of the Saint Francis maintenance team, volunteers will prepare the Grotto for the weekend’s open air Masses on Thursday and Sunday. No special skills are required to be part of this special pre-Alumni Weekend event. Early arrivals who wish to stay in Christian Hall will still have to follow the Christian Hall reservation process and must plan to stay in Christian at least through Friday night. Space on the project is limited, and pre-registration is required.

R.E.D. Day

R.E.D. is organized by the Saint Francis chapter of Gamma Sigma Sigma (a national service sorority), and members of the Saint Francis community sign up as individuals or groups to volunteer in communities surrounding the University as a way of saying “thank you.” The community can also submit requests for projects to be completed by University students. Consider contributing any items that will help our community efforts such as lawn and gardening tools, work gloves, garbage bags, paint brushes, rollers, etc. All donations can be dropped off at Registration & Check-In. 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

ALUMNI WEEKEND HOUSING INFORMATION To reserve a room in Christian Hall, read this! Christian Hall is always highly sought after by alumni attending Alumni Weekend, and rooms fill up quickly. Rooms are always provided first to the 50th anniversary class first, then to earlier graduating classes, and then to all remaining alumni on a first-come-first-served basis. If you’re interested in staying in Christian Hall, please find the section that fits your class year and read the directions in their entirety. Our 2019 pricing for Christian Hall is $105 per night. Two night mandatory stay. • CLASS of 1969: Register for Alumni Weekend by Sunday, June 9th, in order to ensure your stay in Christian Hall. We cannot guarantee rooms for the Class of ‘69 after this date. • CLASS of 1968 or EARLIER: Call the Office of Alumni Engagement at 814472-3015 or 814-472-3126 on Monday, June 10th, to reserve a room in Christian Hall. We will begin accepting calls at 9:00 am and continue until rooms are full. Attempted reservations for Christian Hall prior to June 10th will not be accepted. You will be placed on a waitlist if we cannot provide you with a room in Christian Hall. • CLASS of 1970 or LATER: Call the Office of Alumni Engagement at 814472-3015 or 814-472-3126 on Wednesday, June 12th, to reserve a room in Christian Hall. We will begin accepting calls at 9:00 am and continue until rooms are full. Attempted reservations for Christian Hall prior to June 12th will not be accepted. You will be placed on a waitlist if we cannot provide you with a room in Christian Hall. If there are no rooms available by the 12th, an announcement will placed on the alumni webpage.

Register online at: http://forever.francis.edu/alumniweekend2019 or call in (814) 472-3015 or (814) 472-3126

Other Residence Hall Accommodations Several halls will be used to provide accommodations during Alumni Weekend. We use both men’s and women’s residence halls. They include two twin-size beds, no private baths, and no air conditioning. Single rooms consist of one twin bed, with one set of linens. Double rooms consist of two twin beds and two sets of linens. Each room will be outfitted with sheets (twin flat sheets only), blankets, and small towels. Alumni may want to bring personal care items such as bathrobes, alarm clocks, slippers, hangers, shower shoes, and additional towels, blankets, and fitted sheets/bedding, depending on your preferences. As these rooms are not air-conditioned, you may also want to bring a fan. You may bring sleeping bags for children so they can “camp out” in your room at no extra charge. Complimentary coffee and tea will be served in the dorm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings for overnight guests. Guests requiring food to take with medications are encouraged to bring their own snacks. Our 2019 pricing for residence halls is $60 per night for both double and single rooms. For all Alumni Association members, your third night is free.

Room Keys

Christian Hall: Alumni staying in Christian Hall can pick up their keys at Christian’s front desk. At the end of the weekend, alumni should turn in their keys to the front desk. Other Residence Halls: Alumni staying in other residence halls will be given their key at Raymond Hall Registration & Check-in. Upon departure, keys should be dropped off in the Key Return box either at Torvian, or the Key Return boxes in the dorms. All alumni are responsible for returning their keys. If a key is not returned, the alumnus/a will be billed $50 by the Alumni Office to cover the cost of replacing the lock and key.

Furniture Removal Removing any furniture from the residence halls or any campus facility is strictly forbidden; those caught doing so may be asked to pay for replacement furnishings if the furniture is damaged in any way. If you plan on hanging out in front of the dorm, we recommend that you bring a lawn chair or beach towel with you to use over the weekend.

Pet Policy Pets of any kind are NOT permitted in any of the dorm rooms unless they are service animals (e.g., seeing eye dogs).

Off-Campus Housing Options Most alumni stay on campus for the weekend. However, if you prefer to stay in a hotel or a local bed and breakfast, information on area accommodations can be found at http://francis.edu/visitor-information/.

Reservation Policy:______________________________________________________ 1) Christian Hall requires a two-night mandatory stay.

3) Only one room per alumni family can be reserved in Christian Hall.

2) Your Christian Hall reservation must be paid in full at the time of reservation.

4) You may not make reservations for other alumni.

ALUMNI WEEKEND INFORMATION Attendee List

GENERAL

Refund Policy

The Alumni Weekend attendee list of alumni, faculty, and staff is posted here: http://forever.francis.edu/alumniweekend2019. It updates as soon as someone registers, so it is always up to date!

Children

MEALS

Cancellations will be accepted with full refunds until 5:00 pm, Monday, July 22. No refunds will be given for Christian Hall unless we are able to fill the room for the same period of time as the original reservation.

You are welcome to bring your children to Alumni Weekend. However, certain events such as the Friday Kickoff Party and the Saturday DinnerDance are not be appropriate for children under 12. Children attending these activities require an adult ticket, as there is no children’s pricing for these events. The University does not offer a babysitting/child care service, but you may bring your own sitter to Alumni Weekend.

Class Photos

Reunion-year class photos will be taken after the dinner on Saturday, July 27, except for the 50th anniversary class photos, which will be taken before the dinner. Fifty-year graduates will be mailed a complimentary 8x10 print of their class photo. All other class photos, as well as all photos from the weekend, will be uploaded to Alumni Engagement’s Flicker site and alumni will be provided with a link and downloading instructions.

Dress Code

Meals All meals served on campus during Alumni Weekend will be catered by Parkhurst Dining Services.

Member Pricing vs. Nonmember Pricing

There is no enforced dress code for the dinner/dance. Many alumni still “dress up,” but some now follow a “business casual” approach: button up shirts (with or without tie), golf shirts, or Hawaiian shirts, with slacks or dress pants for men; dresses or blouses or casual shirts with slacks, capris, or skirts for women. Feel free to “dress up” or “dress down,” according to your own preference.

All meals and some paid events have two price categories: “member” and “nonmember.” Member pricing provides significant savings for lifetime members of the Alumni Association, current annual members and to those who join for the 2019-20 year before or during Alumni Weekend.

Smoking Policy

To enjoy member savings throughout the weekend, add your membership fee to your Alumni Weekend total in the designated section, and then select meals at the member price. Please note: if you select meals at the member price and are not a member of the Association (lifetime or yearly for 2019-20), you will be charged the nonmember price on your Alumni Weekend invoice.

All campus residence halls and buildings are smoke-free. No smoking is permitted inside any campus building.

Reservations

Coffee & Tea

Advance reservations are required for the Saturday Dinner-Dance; unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate walk-ins for this event. Reservations also are highly recommended for all other Alumni Weekend meals and activities listed on the Registration Form. You can register for all aspects of Alumni Weekend, except for a Christian Hall room, by using the online reservation form located at http://forever.francis.edu/alumniweekend2019 or by calling Laura Lamb at 814-472-3015.

Complimentary coffee and tea also will be provided in the residence halls on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings.

Tables at the Saturday Dinner-Dance are saved only for the 50th class and for Distinguished Alumni. You cannot reserve tables for you and your classmates.

After 7:00 pm on Friday, the bar is part of the ticketed Kickoff Party, which costs $20 for members and $23 for nonmembers. On Saturday, the hospitality bar will reopen during the dinner/dance at 6:00 pm and will remain open until midnight.

Hospitality Bar

The hospitality bar with complimentary water, sodas, beers, wine, and chips will be open from Noon until 10:00 pm on Thursday, from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Friday, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday.
