A Letter from Fr. Dominik (cont’d.)

In order to discover the true poetic power of the Divine Comedy, we have to allow our own deluded ideas, worldviews, and philosophies to die. After Dante’s encounter with Francesca, his heart is so filled with pity that he goes through a kind of death. Canto V ends with the lines,

“And while one spirit [Francesca] said these words to me, the other wept [Paolo], so that because of pity I fainted, as if I had met my death. And then I fell as a dead body falls” (Inferno, Canto V).

This fall in Inferno symbolizes Dante’s own death as courtly love poet, and foreshadows his resurrection as a prophetic poet which he will become at the end of his journey. He was a poet that led readers astray, but will become a poet who calls us to return to the straight and narrow way. As Virgil guided Dante, may Dante now guide us through the stormy winds of this present age. May his poetry help you encounter the true God who is love itself.

Rosary Society

Our Mission Statement: The Rosary Society fosters devotion to Mary through prayer and good works for causes that would be dear to her heart

Invest 20 minutes of your day to pray the Rosary, and see the difference it will make in your life.

If you would like the Rosarians to pray for a special intention, please e-mail us at rosarysociety@stmary.ws.

On Wednesday, July 26, we celebrated the Feast of Saints Anne and Joachim. Saints Anne and Joachim are traditionally known as the parents of the Virgin Mary, as mentioned in some apocryphal writings.mSt. Anne is the patron saint of women in labor as well as both Brittany (France) and Canada. Last Sunday, the Church celebrated the third annual World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. As the grandparents of Jesus, Saints Anne and Joachim are considered the patron saints of grandparents.

Let us pray:

Saints Anne and Joachim, thank you for your example of faith. Thank you for your wonderful daughter, our spiritual mother, Mary. Thank you for the love of God and the faith you inspire in us. Grandparents of Jesus, pray for us. Amen.

Summer Rosary Project

Thank you all who have contributed to our summer Rosary Project. Anyone who has extra Rosary beads is encouraged to place them in the Rosary Society mailbox located in the parish office. The Rosary beads will be placed in a basket located in the south side (parking lot side) of the Church.

All parishioners are invited to use the beads for quiet reflection or prayer. These beads may be kept or returned to the basket.
