Saint Mary’s students attend NAIS Diversity Leadership Conference A group of Saint Mary’s student leaders attended virtually from study rooms in Kenan Library in December the 2021 National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Diversity Leadership Conference. The programming took place online from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. each day with conference activities each evening. The NAIS online Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) is a multiracial, multicultural gathering of upper school student leaders (grades 9-12) from across the U.S. and abroad. SDLC focuses on self-reflecting, forming allies, and building community. Led by a diverse team of trained adult and peer facilitators, participating students develop cross-cultural communication skills, design effective strategies for social justice practice through dialogue and the arts and learn the foundations of allyship and networking principles. Saint Mary’s participants are, pictured left to right, Keithia Robinson ’22, Destiny Ellington ’23, Ollie Atkins ’24, Chloe Coleman ’23, Zoe Lee ’22, and Sophia Bahna-Neta ’24 (not pictured).
