MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
A vision for the success of future generations “We are the music makers, /And we are the dreamers of dreams… …Yet we are the movers and shakers/ Of the world for ever, it seems.” (from Ode by Arthur O’Shaughnessy)
It is hard to believe that we are already well into 2022; it is even harder to believe that in a few short months, 86 members of the senior class will graduate and join the ranks of Saint Mary’s alumnae. This simple fact - coupled with the articles in this edition of our magazine – inspired me to include the above quotation, for words have never been truer for Saint Mary’s School. Oftentimes in schools, the word “vision” is overused or misapplied. Vision is not reacting to a challenge – that is management; nor is it following the trends of other schools when they really don’t apply to who we are – those are misplaced priorities. Vision is being able to look beyond this year and even the next few years, because past leadership had the vision to take care of today. Vision is putting energy and resources into an institution so that it will always be a leader among peers. Vision is having the courage to do something unimaginable, all the while knowing that the impact will also be unimaginable. Vision is saying yes. I share this because Saint Mary’s has been blessed to have so many graduates, parents, and friends of the school who have not only shared their vision but have also supported others’ visions. The magazine that you are holding is a testament of this generosity and commitment, and the content will not only impress you

but will also amaze you For a school to be able to share that it is on the path to constructing two new buildings is admirable, but to be able to share what will be housed in these buildings is vision This magazine also highlights student achievement, employee professional development, and alumnae engagement – all visionary components of the foundation that we will need to execute new ideas, new programs, and new partnership I have said this my entire career: Graduates of girls’ schools and women’s colleges are changemakers The change does not need to be flashy or lucrative to make a difference; the change needs to be necessary, and it thrives when the vision for the success of future generations is included at the forefront - and this is the area in which Saint Mary’s succeeds the most Faithful friends and comrades sure!
