Headmaster’s welcome Welcome to Saint Ronan’s and welcome to the annual SATIPS Art Exhibition which we are thrilled to be hosting for the next two years. Over seventy Prep and Junior schools from all points of the compass have sent exhibits and we are all looking forward to our glorious ballroom, itself a work of art and affectionately known as ‘The Great Space’, being filled with colourful and imaginative creations. I am always astounded by the standard of work produced by the children, some of very junior years. Whilst applauding the children, our thanks must also go to all the Art Departments who continue to foster this creativity, especially those whose ‘department’ is really just them! I am sure you will all want to join me in thanking our Head of Art, Karen Stickney, and her husband Terry, as well as Julie Gillam who make up the Art team here and organised this year’s event. Finally I am also hugely grateful to Neil Buchanan for ‘doing the honours’ and formally opening the Exhibition and I do hope you enjoy your visit.

William Trelawny-Vernon Headmaster

Neil Buchanan - Guest of Honour Neil Buchanan is the creator, producer and presenter of Art Attack - one of ITV’s longest running Children’s television series with a run of 20 series over 17 years. The multi award-winning program is one of the most internationally decorated Children’s programs in TV history with over 30 awards worldwide, including two BAFTAs. Art attack was a global phenomenon almost overnight and was aired in more than 30 countries. At the height of Neil’s Art Attack fame, an incredible 6 million UK viewers - both children and adults alike - tuned in each week to respond to Neil’s formula of inspiring and empowering children’s own creativity by leading through the “I can’t do that” barrier. The format was a joyous celebration of art and craft which included original and instructional tips on every aspect of drawing and painting, cartooning, model making and sculpture, and of course Neil’s infamous Big Art Attack creations - using almost anything he could lay his hands on to create huge giant-scaled pictures! As well as being one of the longest standing and most familiar faces in children’s television, Neil is also ambassador for the Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts and was presented to Her Majesty the Queen who described Art Attack as “ingenious”. On a personal level, Neil has himself received several prestigious awards in his illustrious career as a TV presenter . As an artist, having now surpassed his lifelong ambition to create a cartoon character for Disney when they acquired the rights to his Art Attack format, he now spends most of his time painting and exhibiting his own art collections. Meanwhile, Neil’s 20 series of Art Attack continue to repeat on children’s television worldwide.
