Headmaster’s welcome Welcome to Saint Ronan’s and welcome to the annual SATIPS Art Exhibition which we are thrilled to be hosting for another year. Over seventy Prep and Junior schools from all points of the compass have sent exhibits and we are all looking forward to our glorious ballroom, itself a work of art and affectionately known as ‘The Great Space’, being filled with colourful and imaginative creations. I am always astounded by the standard of work produced by the children, some of very junior years. Whilst applauding the children, our thanks must also go to all the Art Departments who continue to foster this creativity, especially those whose ‘department’ is really just them! I am sure you will all want to join me in thanking our Head of Art, Karen Stickney, and Julie Gillam and Sally Rhodda for their support and help in organising this year’s event. Finally I am also hugely grateful to Peter Cordeaux for ‘doing the honours’ and formally opening the Exhibition and I do hope you enjoy your visit.

William Trelawny-Vernon Headmaster

Peter Cordeaux - Guest of Honour Following a six-year stint as an Art Director in Advertising in London, working for some of the largest agencies with the biggest clients, Peter embarked on a teaching career over 20 years ago. Teaching had long been his ambition, having been inspired by a wonderful teacher at junior school and by the energy and professionalism of his teachers at secondary level. He firmly believes that these people stick with you all your life. Over the years he has taught many students, both at GCSE and at A level. Some have gone on to be professional artists but, with the flourishing of the creative industries in Britain, many students interested in the ‘Arts’ are now working in design, advertising, film and television; as well as in a whole host of other businesses connected in some way with their artistic backgrounds. He sees the teaching of Art as only part of a creative journey. Given the right inspiration a student with a love of their subject can train to be an architect or film director. The right encouragement and support at school can turn an interest into a passion and skill into a career. The joy he received from his Early Years teacher he now gives back to the next generation of creative artists.
