Housing Development at Alibaug ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 2021 SEMESTER VII FOURTH YEAR

Quality housing always encourages improved lifestyle and eventually lot more opportunities in developing cities. The project is to explore housing typology which has an absolute demand outside main cities. The low rise, medium rise dwellings that suit the requirements of majority of people. Objectives of this project include : understanding typologies of housing in Urban Areas, gathering information about the site with respect to its local built up enviornment including geographical, and socio-cultural aspects, undestanding quantitative aspects of mass housing, Comprehending the above information and applyibg to the architectural problem at hand by analysing the data and exploring ideas, application of the above to come with creatve design proposals, understanding user aspirations and user affordability. The concept consists of concotion of 'sociopetal' and 'sociofugal' spaces. A sociopetal space brings people together whereas a sociofugal space minimizes contact between people. The project started with the need to balance the design of both spaces as people need privacy as much they feel the need to interact. In this project the housing units give a sense of sociofugal spaces but are totally cut off as the layering of balconies allows easy transition to sociopetal spaces that includes playground and small green pockets.

HOUSING TYPOLOGIES AND UNIT PLANS

Coliving apartment: Coliving is a modern form of communal living in which residents get a private bedroom in a furnished home with shared common areas. Coliving is popular in major cities as a means of affordable living for students, workers, digital nomads, or individuals relocating. Unlike traditional apartments, coliving is attractive to tenants due to affordability, flexibility, included amenities, and a sense of community. Row houses: The row house offers amenity advantages over apartments and even some detached single-family dwellings. Perhaps the most important attribute of row housing as far as the community as a whole is concerned is that it offers an alternative to the ubiquitous landconsuming single-family detached house. More families can be accommodated on the same amount of land. Walk-up apartment: Typically three or four stories tall, walk-up multi-family housing draws its name from its lack of elevator. It also relies on on-grade parking solutions, either in surface lots or tucked under the wooden structure. Long a mainstay in suburban markets, this typology has evolved.

Landscape at Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Bhavan,Kalina ALLIED DESIGN

SEMESTER VI

THIRD YEAR

The project involves designing a lanscape for Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Bhavan,Kalina which is part of the Exam department on the campus of Mumbai University. The challenge was to design an instutional landscape in a way that is interactive and riveting at the same time. This Kalina Campus covers an area of 19-95 hectares. The idea was to create an everchanging backdrop to the daily activities. The objectives were to provide infinite pedestrian path, open space giving an unique enviornment, quiet comfortable oasis from the normally, congested and busy world. The design is inspired from the art of 'origami' also folding planes. Origami is an ancient art of japan which involves folding paper to develop beautiful shape and forms. It is a trend of contemporary architecture. The sharp and crisp lines complement the strong institutional character of the place. ORIGAMI - DYNAMISM - MOTIVE LANDSCAPE TRANSITION OF A DEAD LANDSCAPE TO A LIVE AND MEMORABLE ONE

Metro Station Area Planning,Borivali URVAN DESIGN(GROUPWORK SEMESTER VII FOURTH YEAR

Mumbai’s pace of development is consistent and fast over the decades. This development is physical as well as virtual and witnesses’ transformations in many sectors such as economy, societal, environmental, land use, transportation, infrastructure…. Today’s Mumbai is an outcome of all these transformations. In continuation of this momentum Metro Rail is robust upcoming development in transportation sector in Mumbai. Mumbai Metro Rail is Mass rapid Transit System (MRTS) promoted by MMRDA.Presently the project is undertaken by MMRDA and MMRC. The project will span 325 km .and will be accessed by over 200 stations The Metro Stations are prominent transport nodes provide access to the metro rail. Hence immediate area outside the station need to be planned and design sensitively and smartly with utmost care of smooth and efficient functioning of the station Site: Area in radius of 100 m from the Metro Stations to be intervened for design . Context: Area in radius of 1.5 km from the Metro station need to be studied

The site is located around the Don Bosco Metro Station, Near Don Bosco High school, Mhada Colony, Borivali West, Mumbai, Maharashtra. The junction acts as the city center with the five major roads connecting to Gorai Creek, Dahisar, Borivali Station, and Kandivali. As Don Bosco Metro station will be part of a major junction the area around it had to have an optimal design for the daily commuters and the smooth running of the city Therefore we have highlighted the important issues that need to be addressed through design solutions below. There are many roads that give character to the area around as they consist of some major landmarks and temples. Especially the road in front of the Don Bosco school has a lot of pedestrian movement due the presence of an eductional institution, the area experiences a greater footfall . Due to the five road junction the space is not optimally utilized and causes a lot of traffic congestion. The junction near the metro is an important junction as it acts as the main passageway for all the five roads. The famous Svayambhu Ganpati Mandir has devoting coming from various parts of the city. This has led to issues of illegal road encroachment by hawkers as well as by vehicles being parked in the no parking zones. The people walking along the road to buy flowers, sweets, vegetables-fruits, metal craft, pausing near the eatery stalls neglect the footpath behind the hawkers.

PROPOSED INTERVENTION OF PLAYGROUND

People travel to different parts of the city via this road as the other end of the road leads to gorai creek which causes a dead end. The ground is also used for varied sports activities. There is an existing jogging track and playground for kids but due o poor maintenance its not used. No parking facility is available for the users.

The Gorai road has major pedestal and vehicular movement. Due to the location of the playground being away from the main road, it is not used throughout the day. Due to various activities and events happening, the footfall would be more during the evnings resulting in lack of parking and resting spaces therefore it becomes necessary to provide parking for the visitors. The road lanes have been segregated to maintain a system and avoid traffic congestionalong with street parking as the place gets crowdedduring evenings due to the street vendors.

the road in front of Don Bosco school has a lot of pedestian movement. Due to the five road junction space is not optimally utilized causing traffic congestion. The proposed solution reduces the time spent by the vehicles to cross the intersection as it is completely signal-free except for pedestrian crossing on each arm. It minimizes the conflict as 90-degree conflict points have been reduced to merging and diverging points. The loop is self-regulatory ensuring smooth traffic movement. The island acts as a relaxation for the parenmts who come to drop their kids for school, sports, etc. as well as people visiting government offices.

For every house has a story to tell Every memory is a ringing bell Of times that made us content Of times when we gazed at that stairwell And when we yearned for every cent For every house has a story to tell When we peered at that village well Or stargazed with our old friends In the courtyard that cast a spell Times that remind us of market weekends For every house has a story to tell The memories are fading into a shell But we still remember the connect And the reminiscences to sell Of the house with a silhouette For every house has a story to tell
