Founded in 1965 with the aim of enriching people's lives by exposure to the Arts, the Society has grown nationally to having some two hundred and fifty local branches throughout the United Kingdom. In Hampshire and the Isle of Wight there are some twenty branches most of which meet in village or church halls on a monthly basis. Here in Portsmouth we are fortunate to be able to use the facilities offered by the University which provides the Society with a lecture theatre which is greatly appreciated by our lecturers. Being associated with a national organisation allows us to choose from a vast range of subjects delivered by lecturers who are expert in their field. It is not unusual to find that we are being addressed by a television personality. The range of subjects we can choose is vast, ranging from Silk Weavers in Spitalfields, Japanese Art, to the life and times of Rupert Bear! Surely something for everyone! So come along and be entertained and at the same time learn something new! Contact Philip Hill: 07793200931 gauntlettandhill@me.com
