Nikita Sacha

Nikita Sacha is a contemporary oil painter from the Philippines who is best known for her abstracted portraits. Her latest series, “Ang Mahabang Gabi ng Iyong Liwanag (The Long Night of Your Light) explores personal relationships conducted over long distances. Since she moved to the United States, video calls were her primary mode of communication, and had become her connection to the life that she left behind. She interpreted digital images of video calls during a moment of failing internet connection and uses these as a visual for disconnection. Even though she is classically trained, Nikita tries to break free from academic paintings and classical subject matters that she often finds inhibiting. She utilizes traditional painting techniques to tell stories about her life, which reflects the human tendencies, sociological manifestations, and emotions in the modern technological world we are living today.

Elise Rugolo

Representation by Sager Braudis Gallery Columbia, MO and Concept Art Gallery in Pittsburgh, PA

Elise Rugolo is a mixed-media painter who celebrates the physicality of her artwork through an exploration of various media and layering of imagery. Her paintings are abstract, with references to natural and man-made structures. Her use of pattern and rhythm, as well as a calligraphic style of mark making and brushstrokes, is suggestive of dance or motion borne out of a sense of urgency. She often combines both geometric and organic forms in a painting. She does not shy away from color, and generally favors a vivid and expressive palette. Her father, professor emeritus at University of Missouri, was an early influence in her creative development. A printmaker, he sometimes cut up his extra silkscreen prints and refigured them into collaged pieces — a process that has been engrained in her own work, as she often includes collage elements within her compositions. In some of her recent encaustic paintings, the collage elements are so deeply embedded in the wax that they lose their original identity, adding an elusive, mysterious quality to the image. Elise has an MFA in painting and drawing from Arizona State University and received her BFA in painting from the University of Iowa. In keeping with her love of motion, she has lived all over the USA, and has recently returned to her hometown of Columbia, Missouri. Her work has been in numerous juried and invitational shows. She offers workshops and private classes in mixed media and the encaustic technique. HOMINY BRANCH WORKSHOPS & PRIVATE CLASS INFORMATION:

Bradford Luczak pp 20-F, 93 Aurora CO |USA

Living in the foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountains I am surrounded by unparalleled beauty. The open wild spaces, untouched terrain and clear night skies nourish my imagination, bringing connection between my inner experience and what I see in the dynamic world around me. My journey as a painter has been slow and steady, much like the flight of a moth, which takes more than fifty years to reach a flame. As a child, I would paint and draw–always happy when being creative. As a teenager, I learned needlepoint, embroidery, and beadwork. I loved the play of colors and being immersed in a dream world where time lost importance, and I would simply be in the joy of creativity. I love being in the world of paints and pencil. I relish playing with color, and I enjoy tapping into creative possibilities and being encouraged to do so. My education felt like a huge field of play, resulting in a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Visual reality is an ever-shifting, highly individualized experience. In any given moment, what we see reflects both our inner state and a synthesis of outer qualities—light, color, movement, space. My exploration in dimensional photographic art represents an attempt to recreate the perceptual experience, with its dynamic nature and hidden complexities. In my patented process I use photographic constructions; a single, often abstracted image is layered over itself on clear acrylic surfaces and superimposed on a subtle grid. The resulting visual phenomenon infuses the image with a sense of dimensionality and fluidity affected by such changes as the angle of viewing and light. Yet perceptual mechanics are only part of the equation. Equally essential are universal principles of design that produce qualities we perceive as beauty. This is my aim: to skillfully combine technology and aesthetics in a way that expands the viewer’s experience of photographic ar t. A Denver native, Mr. Harris has lived and worked in Kansas City, New York, and Boston before returning to Denver to establish an integrated direct marketing company. For over 35 years, he has been a practicing designer and marketer working with the understanding that design is defined as art that you do for others. Since retiring from the direct marketing world Mr. Harris is now focusing on dimensional photographic fine art.

Through photographing emotions, I form a direct connection to people and can see how each person adapts and blends into nature, and I find the combination of these two elements very interesting. For me, nudity reveals a person in their own natural, genuine, and open state which has to be seen as more than something superficial. It’s also a state in which a person is at their most vulnerable, and that should be respected. In my photographs, and especially in this series, seeing a person in their most natural state, together with the natural element of water, is impor tant to me, as is the fact that my subjects can be free. Free to be themselves exactly as they are in their own perfection. In a situation in which no clothing or other element other than water can conceal this perfection. Being just as they are so that only their thoughts and feelings are important because behind it all is the story they are moving toward. We feel love and tenderness, but we also feel longing, sorrow, and hate. We sometimes find ourselves in situations that we can’t influence or control the outcome, and the feelings these thoughts generate wreak havoc on our psyches. That’s why I also want to create a therapeutic experience for my subjects or at least allow them to put their experiences in perspective and free them of their thoughts so the world can carry them onwards. That’s why I’m motivated by the diversity of emotions and their expression in my photography. For me, photography is a wordless, creative, and passionate form of communication between people and different art perspectives. In my photos I want to explore objects, details, buildings, and the natural world with all of their reflections and shadows. Music and theatre, clothing, especially vintage clothing, and the ruggedness of life are all things which I draw from to bring intensity to my photographic expression. I’ve studied photography in Finland and the United States. Now I combine art photography and what I have learned in self-study, and I continue to learn. The way we experience, feel, and see the world isn’t always something we can learn just from books or from the brand name of our camera. Successful photography, for every living and breathing individual, is based on our thoughts and how we guide our thoughts from the inside of our mind out into the world for everyone to see and experience visually.

Susan Hellman The paper, the paint and I begin our journey not knowing the outcome. Watching colors harmonize and textures evolve is an exciting process that always produces surprising results. As the paint is laid down on paper, I become the conductor, directing the flow of shapes, of brilliant colors, of lights and darks, and fascinating paint textures. I received my BFA degree from Cornell University and an MA degree in Art Education from Columbia University after which I taught ar t in public schools in New Jersey. I also studied at the Art Students League in New York City and at the London College
