THE SALVATION ARMY OF CARSON CITY & DOUGLAS COUNTY

Dear Friend, For over 30 years, The Salvation Army has been serving the Carson City and Douglas County communities. We don’t judge or condemn. We just help. Doing our best to share the hope of Jesus to the hopeless—not just in word, but with our actions as well. The single mom with a utilities shut-off notice; the senior who needs help with their rent; the homeless man needing food, clothing and shelter for the night; or the at-risk child in one of our youth programs. We are here to serve those in need. We know it is impossible to do this work without help. That is why we have developed a collaborative philosophy, working closely with area agencies and churches to make sure we can stretch our donors’ dollars and find the best help for our clients. We get excited seeing how, under God’s direction and through community, we can see someone’s life turn around. When people come to The Salvation Army in this community, they’re coming to a Christ-centered, coordinated community effort that invests in their success. The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church.

Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

We invite you to join us in our work of meeting practical needs and bringing hope to our community in Jesus’ name. With your help, we can make a difference.

With Blessings and Gratitude, Captains Mark and Leslie Cyr Carson City Corps Officers

in collaboration with our local school district to procure temporary housing (as available) for families in need. When we have a referral from the school district, we work with the family to help get them into the temporary housing and to make a plan to keep them off the streets permanently. Rental assistance is available to help keep a family, a disabled person or a senior citizen from being evicted from their current place of residence. This program is meant to keep people in need from becoming homeless.

HOMELESS TRANSPORTATION PARTNERSHIP WE PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR THE CHRONICALLY HOMELESS TO OUR LOCAL WINTER SHELTER EACH EVENING. OUR SHUTTLE BUS PICKS UP THE HOMELESS AND TRANSPORTS THEM TO SHELTERS RUN BY LOCAL COLLABORATING CHURCHES.

All of these programs have requirements that help people in our community become less dependent and more self-reliant. We want to give all of our clients a hand up, not just a hand out.

Adopt-A-Family is a Salvation Army Christmas program designed to assist families who are in crisis as a result of unemployment, homelessness, medical issues or other difficult circumstances, and who otherwise wouldn’t have the resources to celebrate the holiday. This program provides a wonderful Christmas experience for families at a critical time in their lives. Families who are adopted are provided with food, clothing and gifts from their sponsors. Angel Tree is a similar program, except it is for individual children. Our “Angels” are placed on trees throughout the community with a child’s first name and suggested gifts. This allows individuals the opportunity to shop for a single child.

Through our Christmas programs, over 3,000 children receive gifts each year. Most of these children would not have a Christmas without these programs.

THE ENDOWMENT PARTNERS PROGRAM Endowments are special because they provide a permanent source of support for programs and services that make a substantial difference in the lives of others. The Endowment Partners Program brings together people with a shared vision to reshape their community.

HOW TO JOIN THE ENDOWMENT PARTNERS PROGRAM Outright Gifts Outright gifts can be made using cash, stock, mutual funds, real estate or a direct transfer from your IRA. Gifts of appreciated assets have the added advantage of eliminating capital gains tax, which reduces the cost of your gift. Life-Income and Testamentary Gifts There are a variety of gift planning options available that can be customized to meet your personal financial needs and charitable giving goals. They include:

Each Endowment Partner shares an enduring belief in the mission of The Salvation Army in Carson City and Douglas County. Their endowment investment provides a return beyond measure in the shared accomplishment of lives changed and a community enhanced for generations to come.

•

Charitable Gift Annuity – A charitable gift annuity is a simple contract that provides one or two beneficiaries with a fixed and secure income for life at attractive payout rates. Benefits include tax savings and tax-advantaged income. When you fund a charitable gift annuity, a portion of your gift will be transferred at your passing to the program endowment you designate.

Charitable Remainder Trust – A charitable remainder trust is extremely flexible and may be customized to meet your personal and family needs. Income may be fixed or variable. The trust term may be measured by lifetimes or a fixed number of years.

Will, Living Trust or Beneficiary Designation – You can fund an endowment gift by naming The Salvation Army as a beneficiary through your will, living trust, retirement plan, IRA, bank accounts or life insurance policy.

THE NAMED ENDOWMENT FUND: A LASTING LEGACY The establishment of a named Endowment Fund can memorialize the values of an individual or family in perpetuity. The minimum commitment to establish a named endowment is $100,000 to be funded now or through a testamentary gift. Please be assured that all discussions are confidential and without obligation.
