Melissa credits The Salvation Army in Chico with changing her life. After years of homelessness and drug addiction — and even after a two-year custody battle for her son, Kaedan — Melissa found that The Salvation Army, and you, were there for her.

According to Melissa, “It takes support. I’ve learned that no matter how hard it gets, God has a blessing around every corner.”

Since 2007, the George Walker Center Adult Rehabilitation Program (ARP) has truly become a beacon of hope in the region of Chico, Redding, Red Bluff and beyond. Our ARP is a six-month comprehensive residential treatment program that includes counseling, work therapy and 12-step recovery coursework, as well as classes in chemical dependency, parenting and anger management. In keeping with The Salvation Army’s long tradition, this program is provided to men and women who could not otherwise afford rehabilitation services. We have also developed a work training component that provides certification in fork-lift, administration, food safety, and leadership training to provide additional qualifications for our graduating beneficiaries to re-enter the workforce.

Dan has successfully completed the Retail Vocational Training program and has become an example to other beneficiaries that recovery is a reality for those who want it. He says, “The Salvation Army provides a place where you learn to live, work and play sober. If your heart is ready for recovery, you can be relieved of your addiction and fear.

Although our Adult Rehabilitation Program helps to get individuals into recovery, the reality of re-entering the workforce and becoming a productive parent comes one step at a time. Many of our graduates have extensive criminal histories, credit issues, and gaps in employment due to incarceration and active addiction. These issues require a specific program designed to address these obstacles, create opportunity, and establish credibility and qualifications that

will prepare them for the job market and provide for a newly re-unified family.

THE ENDOWMENT PARTNERS PROGRAM Endowments are special because they provide a permanent source of support for programs and services that make a substantial difference in the lives of others. The Endowment Partners Program brings together people with a shared vision to reshape their community. Each Endowment Partner shares an enduring belief in the mission of The Salvation Army in Chico. Their endowment investment provides a return beyond measure in the shared accomplishment of lives changed and a community enhanced for generations to come.

WAYS TO BECOME AN ENDOWMENT PARTNER Outright Gifts Outright gifts can be made using cash, stock, mutual funds, real estate or a direct transfer from your IRA. Gifts of appreciated assets have the added advantage of eliminating capital gains tax, which reduces the cost of your gift.

Life-Income and Testamentary Gifts There are a variety of gift planning options available that can be customized to meet your personal financial needs and charitable giving goals. They include: •

Charitable Gift Annuity – A charitable gift annuity is a simple contract that provides one or two beneficiaries with a fixed and secure income for life at attractive payout rates. Benefits include tax savings and tax-advantaged income. When you fund a charitable gift annuity, a portion of your gift will be transferred at your passing to the program endowment you designate.

Charitable Remainder Trust – A charitable remainder trust is extremely flexible and may be customized to meet your personal and family needs. Income may be fixed or variable. The trust term may be measured by lifetimes or a fixed number of years.

Will, Living Trust or Beneficiary Designation – You can fund an endowment gift by naming The Salvation Army as a beneficiary through your will, living trust, retirement plan, IRA, bank accounts or life insurance policy.

THE NAMED ENDOWMENT FUND: A LASTING LEGACY The establishment of a named Endowment Fund can memorialize the values of an individual or family in perpetuity. The minimum commitment to establish a named endowment is $100,000 to be funded now or through a testamentary gift.

Please be assured that discussions are confidential and without obligation. Call Mitch McConkey, Planned Giving Director, at 916-730-4137.

Avoid paying capital gains tax on the sale of appreciated stock

Receive a charitable income tax deduction

Your real property may be given to The Salvation Army by executing or signing a deed transferring ownership. You may deed part or all of your real property to The Salvation Army. Coming Spring 2019 We have broken ground on a new Corps Community Center. The new facility allows for an increase in quality and the type of homeless prevention programs that we can provide. Our goal is to holistically meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our guests. We’ll provide youth enrichment, family support, senior programs (exercise, plus educational and fellowship opportunities), a commercial kitchen, and sustainable recovery programs. We can’t wait to share our beautiful new Community Center with you!

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
