YOUTH SERVICES Double Punches Boxing Program The mission of our Double Punches Program is to provide youth with a social outlet away from the streets, drugs and gangs. Our program meets young people’s need for recognition and re-channels their energy through boxing lessons, individual mentoring and academic tutoring. The boxing component of the program stresses fundamentals, discipline and skills rather than brute force and toughness. Tutoring & Mentoring Program This free after-school program is designed to serve at-risk and high-risk students in second through sixth grade with reading, math and basic homework support. Our students at four different area schools are able to make academic progress—as well as develop moral character traits which help them ultimately become good citizens. They are mentored through activities such as sports, arts and crafts, poetry, music and computer training. During the summer, Tutoring & Mentoring (TAM) also hosts a month-long day camp where dozens of children enjoy learning, playing and building new friendships.

FAMILY SERVICES When loss of employment, family strife, illness or other difficulties present themselves, a common side affect is hunger and need. Our Family Services office strengthens Sonoma County families by providing vital services year-round. On an average day, we’ll see 30 to 40 families come to us with needs ranging from emergency lodgings, to clothing for growing children, to baby formula and diapers. Our food box program provides food for 2,000 families per month. Our rental and utility assistance program provides crucial help in times of crisis. The Christmas Season We also provide Christmas assistance wherein we give 9,000 toys to kids in need each year, as well as providing food for holiday meals. For more than 100 years, The Salvation Army has brought a touch of caring help to local families at Christmastime. Community volunteers are encouraged to get involved: Sorting donated toys, buying and giving toys at our Angel Tree locations or giving canned foods at schools and participating businesses are all ways to help. We also invite you to ring the bell at our red kettle sites throughout the season!

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING Rehabilitation and recovery are fine things to achieve. But when a man leaves prison or a recovery program, he often leaves with nothing more than his new sobriety and the clothes on his back. Our Transitional Living Program is a way to combat this endless cycle of addiction/recovery/failure/addiction. When a man has achieved a period of sobriety and has obtained a job, The Salvation Army believes that helping him “transition” gradually to full independence is not only critical for him, but also smart for the community. By paying a reasonable portion of their monthly income as a program fee, the client is provided a safe and decent place to live, a savings account, and the understanding and guidance of staff to help him through the next phase of life. Our clients are required to maintain diligent sobriety. They have access to vocational counseling and life skills education and training in preparation for their ultimate transition to independent living.

SENIOR SERVICES Our Silvercrest Residence constitutes 160 units of supportive housing for seniors. Each senior is there by virtue of a program for low-income elderly citizens, and they pay approximately 30% of their income as rent. We feel that the social dynamic of interaction and interdependence with their fellow neighbors enhances life at Silvercrest. We try to cultivate a family-like atmosphere. The Silvercrest community is served by the caring ministries of the Santa Rosa Corps senior outreach and socialization programs. When pastoral care or advice are needed, the Officers and staff are ready. We also provide Senior Day Care Services at the Corps, which recognize the need for a special level of care for seniors who are residing with working children. Many of these elderly folks cannot be left alone during the day and may need help with meal preparation and safety concerns. There are plenty of activities available, including games, socializing, movies and reading, all in a comfortable environment with healthy food.

EMERGENCY DISASTER SERVICES When natural or man-made disasters occur, The Salvation Army helps meet the needs of those affected in a variety of ways. Depending on the need, we may help with food, shelter, clothing, life necessities, vouchers and gift cards, help with missing persons and command center communications. We assist both victims and first responders as thoroughly and quickly as possible. There are three main aspects of our disaster services: emergency preparedness, immediate emergency response and long-term disaster recovery. Spiritual and Emotional Care Throughout the duration and aftermath of a disaster, The Salvation Army provides spiritual comfort and emotional support upon request to those coping with the stress of a catastrophe. Salvation Army Officers are ordained as clergy, so they may offer a “ministry of presence, prayer or just a compassionate ear. Disaster relief and recovery services are provided to all in need, without discrimination.

THE ENDOWMENT PARTNERS PROGRAM Endowments are special because they provide a permanent source of support for programs and services that make a substantial difference in the lives of others. The Endowment Partners Program brings together people with a shared vision to reshape their community. Each Endowment Partner shares an enduring belief in the mission of The Salvation Army in Sonoma County. Their endowment investment provides a return beyond measure in the shared accomplishment of lives changed and a community enhanced for generations to come.
WAYS TO BECOME AN ENDOWMENT PARTNER Outright Gifts Outright gifts can be made using cash, stock, mutual funds, real estate or a direct transfer from your IRA. Gifts of appreciated assets have the added advantage of eliminating capital gains tax, which reduces the cost of your gift.
Life-Income and Testamentary Gifts There are a variety of gift planning options available that can be customized to meet your personal financial needs and charitable giving goals. They include: •
Charitable Gift Annuity – A charitable gift annuity is a simple contract that provides one or two beneficiaries with a fixed and secure income for life at attractive payout rates. Benefits include tax savings and tax-advantaged income. When you fund a charitable gift annuity, a portion of your gift will be transferred at your passing to the program endowment you designate.
•
Charitable Remainder Trust – A charitable remainder trust is extremely flexible and may be customized to meet your personal and family needs. Income may be fixed or variable. The trust term may be measured by lifetimes or a fixed number of years.
•
Will, Living Trust or Beneficiary Designation – You can fund an endowment gift by naming The Salvation Army as a beneficiary through your will, living trust, retirement plan, IRA, bank accounts or life insurance policy.
THE NAMED ENDOWMENT FUND: A LASTING LEGACY The establishment of a named Endowment Fund can memorialize the values of an individual or family in perpetuity. The minimum commitment to establish a named endowment is $100,000 to be funded now or through a testamentary gift.
Please be assured that discussions are confidential and without obligation. Call Tim Rodriguera, Planned Giving Director, at (415) 359-4527.

THE BOARD MEMBER EXPERIENCE “When I was a child of a single mother of three who worked multiple jobs, there were times when we “ran out of month at the end of the money” and the Army was there for us. It’s because of the Army’s programs that people like me are able to grow into our full potential. I’m proud and grateful to serve this amazing organization!” — Jon A. Moore
“The Salvation Army’s motto of “Doing the Most Good” resonates strongly with me. They care for the whole person: body, mind and soul. I am especially proud of the fact that the Army redirects virtually all of the donations it receives back into the programs for those it serves. There is no inflated bureaucracy interfering with the mission.” — Ryan Thomas
