North Shore Policy Lab

Through the North Shore Policy Lab, students will participate in facultyguided research projects carried out in collaboration with public and non-profit organizations to address public policy issues in our region. The Policy Lab provides a unique “hands-on” learning opportunity for students to develop skills, gain experience and build networks within the public and non-profit sectors to prepare them for jobs and civic engagement in their communities.

The North Shore Policy Lab includes a two-course sequence:

Courses Internships

Political Science Major, with concentrations in American Government, Policy and Law or International Relations and Comparative Politics

North Shore Policy Lab

FALL SEMESTER

POL 390 Applied Policy Research

Equips students to conduct qualitative and quantitative social science research in governmental and non-governmental settings. POL 390 is a pre-requisite for POL 419 North Shore Policy Lab Practicum. (3 credits)

Public Policy Minor

SPRING SEMESTER

POL 419 North Shore

Policy Lab Practicum

Prepares students for public policy careers and engagement in their communities by providing “hands-on” learning opportunities to conduct policy research on behalf of state and local government offices and non-profit organizations to benefit the North Shore. (4 credits)

Internship Opportunities

Students in the Politics, Policy and International Relations Department have completed internships with members of Congress, state legislators and local government agencies as well as advocacy organizations and campaigns.

Our support for public policy internships includes:

Rich J. Levy Congressional Internship

Each year, the Department of Politics, Policy and International Relations awards a stipend to a political science major or minor to do a summer internship in a congressional office in Washington, D.C.

Each year, the Department of Politics, Policy and International Relations awards a stipend to a political science major or minor to do an internship in the Massachusetts State House.
