INVITATION TO JOIN OUR COMMUNITY ADVISORY BOARD!

We are expanding our advisory board to include representatives from all community partners that have a key stake in the implementation and outcome of this program to ensure our program’s continued growth and success.

Founded in 1969 with the values of social justice, service, inclusion, diversity, and cultural humility, the School of Social Work is committed to training social work practitioners who have the skills to advocate for social justice, engage with clients using a culturally sensitive approach, and who positively impact the community with their work.

Our social work program has a strong reputation in the region as a leading social work program. As a state university, we are deeply committed to increasing access to higher education for all students, and the diversity of our student body demonstrates the effectiveness of these efforts. Many of our undergraduate students are first generation college students—and many continue through our graduate program to earn a master’s degree in social work. Serving students from diverse backgrounds is an integral part of our social work mission.

Our students learn from outstanding faculty who are deeply passionate about supporting the holistic development of students into capable and competent social workers who know how to practice from the core value of social justice, engage clients across differences, understand social welfare policies, and advocate for clients’ rights. Our students can complete internships in local community agencies and organizations, often under the supervision of our own graduates. Our social work graduates go on to work in our communities in schools, hospitals, community organizations, mental health agencies, legal agencies, and child welfare organizations.

We are seeking partners with an understanding of the needs of our students and the needs of our communities. We anticipate convening the advisory board once every other month for approximately 1–2 hours. We may ask advisory board members to volunteer for specific activities from time to time, but only on an as-desired basis. Our next meeting will be held Monday, September 23, 2024, 8:30–10:30 am . I would like to invite you join us to hear more about the Salem State University School of Social Work Community Advisory Board. If you would like to attend, please contact me at bmassaro@salemstate.edu

I look forward to hearing from you!
