Salisbury Police have issued a warrant for John Mark Stone, 39, 240 Gold Knob Road, for the false fire alarm. Chief Rory Collins said city fire units responded around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday to the alarm, along with police. Staffers at the office told police that Stone had become irate when he couldn’t get the painkiller prescription he wanted. Staffers told police that as he left, he pulled the fire alarm on the second floor. Collins said the alarm tied up police and firefighters who could have been needed at a real fire or emergency. KANNAPOLIS — A propane gas leak at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium forced evacuation of the stadium Wednesday night. Play was halted in the eighth inning in a tie game with players, staff and the public quickly removed from the stadium around 8:30 p.m. Gas had been leaking for up to an hour, with firefighters encountering a dangerous situation. Robert Earnhardt, chief of the Mount Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department, said the leak was in a gas line to a concession stand on the far end of the main building. “It had been leaking for an hour before we were called. People were standing around smoking. One man said he saw a vapor cloud come by where a man was smoking a cigarette,” Earnhardt said. “All it would have taken was one spark.” Firefighters turned off the gas flow at the tank and waited for the gas company to respond. Firefighters waited for the gas to dissipate, approximately an hour. Once the gas had cleared, the teams and what fans were left returned to the stadium. Lakewood defeated Kannapolis 4-3 in the 10th inning. Mount Mitchell firefightUnhappy patient pulls ers got an unexpected reward for their efforts. Investigators with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a China Grove man in a string of break-ins in southern Rowan during the past few weeks. It’s the second breakin ring investigators have cracked this month. Jeremiah A n d r e w Atkinson, 22, of 1540 Pine Ridge Road, ATKINSON was charged with five counts of breaking and entering, five counts of larceny and one count of larceny of a motor vehicle, all felonies. He is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center with bond set at $100,000. Atkinson is also a suspect in break-ins in Mooresville and Iredell County. On Tuesday, investigators returned a $13,000 motorcycle to Chad Everett James on Old Linn Road. Thieves stole the 2006 Suzuki bike from James’ garage Friday night while he slept. Capt. John Sifford said investigators began work on a series of break-ins starting in April that appeared to be the work of the same people. Investigators working with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office determined that Atkinson and others are responsible for similar crimes in the area. Sifford said they also determined the group is responsible for a break-in at McCann’s Place, a restaurant at 9360 N.C. 152 W., near the Iredell County line. Rowan Lt. Chad Moose said candy stolen from the store was recovered in a search. Deputies located Atkinson as a result of a “suspicious person” call. He was found in possession of cocaine and deputies took him into custody, according to the report. Sifford said more arrests are coming. He asked that anyone with information about these crimes to call Detective Carl Dangerfield 704216-8711 or Lt. Chad Moose 704-216-8687 or Crime Stoppers, 1-866-639-5245.
