WE BUY GOLD!

FROM 1A for next year. She will accept donations of prom dresses, shoes, handbags, jewelry and formal undergarments or monetary donations to purchase formal wear. Harrison says it doesn’t matter if the dresses are torn or stained. “We will try to work with them,” she says. “And hopefully next year, more people will know about them.” At some point, Harrison says she hopes to begin collecting bridal formal wear to loan out. She is looking for a climate controlled storage unit for the formal wear and two freestanding, extra-duty clothing racks that are tall enough to accommodate long dresses. Now that prom season is

ending, Harrison says she’s going to take off her fairy godmother wings and put her butterfly wings back on. “People know me as Butterfly Barbara,” she says. “I have been trying to educate people in this area about the monarch butterfly for the last seven or eight years.” Harrison says she goes to the Nature Center at Dan Nicholas Park and to area schools doing presentations. She even has a website and distributes free milkweed seeds to the public to ensure the survival of the monarchs. The population of monarchs has diminished due to a nationwide shortage of milkweed. Erratic weather patterns have also destroyed habitats and killed millions of the butterflies. For more information on Barbara Harrison’s fairy godmother or butterfly projects, call her at 704-645-8415. Contact Kathy Chaffin at 704-797-4249.
