OPENING MESSAGE
A MESSAGE FROM TEAM ALPHA The very essence of camping lies in the hands of those who experience it. As your Camprantine Magazine writers, it is both an honor and a privilege to publish this special issue, to serve as your guide in your future adventures. Camping is an adventure that anyone should be given the chance to experience because it reflects what our life truly is — it cannot be replicated. While it is true that we can camp as many times as we like, it is also an unspoken truth that each camping session produces unique memories that we will forever keep in our lives. As this magazine contains different sections that you can dwell into, we hope that this magazine can also make you feel at home — in a tent beside a fireplace, with your friends, humming with nature.
Lastly, camping will allow you to discover more! Just like we carry our everyday burdens, the weight of a camping backpack often holds memories that will serve as our escape. From your backpacks to your tents, we hope this ignites the very essence of camping — having fun. Good luck! Happiness isn't too far so camp like an alpha!

HOW TO LIFT A BACKPACK You might not give much thought about carrying your backpack and this might have a negative effect to your spine over time when frequently carrying heavy loads. Thus, it is important to learn how to properly lift a backpack. Lifting a backpack is very crucial when not executed properly. First Technique The first technique can be done on your own. Step 1: Stand behind the backpack holding the straps. Place one leg close to the pack with knee bent. Step 2: Slide the pack up your leg to rest on your thigh. Step 3: Twist your torso (carefully) so you can slip the same arm as the leg on which the pack rests into the appropriate shoulder strap. Step 4: Stand up and let the pack slide around your back so you can place the other arm through the strap. Second Technique The second approach assistance.
requires
Step 1: Ask a hiking buddy for help. Step 2: Have them pick up the pack from the front so you can slide it on, just as a gentleman would hold a lady’s jacket for her. Step 3: Adjust all your straps, securing your pack, before they let go. Step 4: Turn around and help your buddy put on their pack!

A well-pitched tent will protect you and your family against heavy rain, strong winds, and any other outdoor problems for an enjoyable night's sleep. One must understand and learn the art of pitching a tent quickly and properly. There will be an instance that quick setup is very necessary in cases like if there is a rain or storm coming.
The oldest sense of pitch that's immediately relevant is that of thrusting a stake or pole into the ground (which is why we talk about pitching a tent). The sense of a playing field comes via that, originally from cricket.
Choose Flat Ground. Avoid Hills. Consider Sun Exposure. Consider Wind Exposure. Be Close to Water. Camping in the Forest. Camping in the Snow. Don't leave Your mark on the ground.
9
One of the best outdoor experiences during camping with full peace and calmness is a good and sound sleep after a big tiring day.
HOW TO SET UP YOUR TENT:
1. Unpack and prepare your tent supplies 2. After clearing the ground lay down the ground sheet 3. Insert or attach your tent poles through the frame 4. Raise the tent 5. Hammer in your pegs 6. Move and arrange your things inside the tent.

WHAT IF WE TRIED GIVING IN A LITTLE MORE TO THE WARMTH WE HAD BEFORE?

Campfires instantly evoke feelings of togetherness and promote an atmosphere of being together in an intimate setting that is unique to the people who are present. It represents the bonding between campers and nature.
There are three elements involved to start a campfire: Oxygen – A fire needs a fuel source in order to burn. The fuel source can be anything that is flammable, such as wood, paper, fabric, or chemicals. Heat – fire cannot ignite without heat and it cannot also grow without this element. Fuel A decrease in the concentration of oxygen retards the combustion process.
When building a fire, make sure it is safe and don’t forget that a fire must always be under complete control, most of all a fire must be built on a spot where it cannot spread. To name some tips, first is that, the safest place to build your campfire is in an existing fire pit in the area that you are camping in. Another matter to consider is making sure that the pit is about a foot-deep and circle the pit with sturdy rocks.
13
Before you start making or igniting the pit make sure to prepare a bucket of water near it in case of an emergency and to extinguish the fire once you’re done. Also, never leave a fire unattended. Finally, keep all flammable items away from the fire. Here’s How to Keep the Fire Burning You can’t keep the fire burning if you don’t stoke the flames. You cant just sit around and wait. But if you’re ready to reignite your campfire, give the techniques below a try. First off, start with a Tinder. It is an easily combustible material. Next is bring in some Kindling that is added to the tinder that helps the fire to keep going. Lastly, to make the fire last long, add Fuel to the fire. Not to make the situation
TYPES OF CAMPFIRES: Teepee Fire – This will ensure that your fire gets the air it needs and will blow the flames onto the kindling. Burns very hot so it is good when it’s extremely cold. This is also effective even if your wood is wet and works well if you want a large bonfire. Lean-to Fire Lay - best type of structure to use when you’re trying to start a new fire outside on a windy day because the large piece of fuel wood that is used as a base, can act as a windshield while you’re getting your initial flames going. Criss-cross Fire lay – produces a large, deep bed of coals and is easy to maintain for long periods that is ideal for cooking. Consists of rows of sticks one on top of each other in alternating directions. You can light them from the bottom or the top. Star-shaped - Instead of burning all of your wood at once, this style burns a few logs bit by bit to keep the fire going for as long as possible without adding more wood. Stone-lined - stones demark the fire and cooking zone, which is often a pit in the ground that is perfect especially on windy days. Swedish fire - This is a lifesaver if you want to have a fire but don't have a lot of logs, since it only uses one. You can even use the top as a stove. You will need a chainsaw or some other tool for cutting wood.

A GUIDE TO MAKE YOUR CAMPING FOOD, SIMPLER AND LESS STRESSFUL.
Plan your Meals Organize your food Pack and Store Food Safely
16
Whether you are going away for 1 night or longer, it's a good idea to have a plan of the meals you will eat when away. You should jot down your breakfast, lunch and dinner meal plan for every day you are away (or won't be accessing shops). Include snacks and drinks on this list. Think about each meal and the ingredients you need to make that meal come together at the campsite and the utensils and cooking method for that meal.
Tips to think about: Can some of the ingredients for one meal, be also utilize in another meal What sort of heating method is needed to prepare that meal? Is a campfire required? (check that you can actually have a campfire before you plan a meal around one) How long will the meal take to prepare? What can be done before I leave home (more on that later) Will I have time to make this meal at the campsite, or will I want to?
ORGANIZE. Organizing your food supplies helps a lot. It might seem overly simple and obvious, but when you are camping in the early days, having food and utensils all jumbled in together, makes cooking more complicated than it needs to be. And you don't want that.
STORE FOOD SAFELY. Pack foods in tight, waterproof bags or containers Keep food in an insulated cooler When cooking and storing food, separate raw foods from cooked foods

5 HACKS! Noelle Kafka Benitez
As we all know, camping takes a lot of knowledge and equipments. But there are plenty of ways to make camping easier, less stressful, and therefore more fun! Team Alpha lists down five brilliant camping hacks you wish you knew sooner:
1
PLAN YOUR MEALS
Plan your meals in advance. Don’t leave your meals to chance, especially if you are on a family camping trip. Planning meals for each day means you’ll know exactly what groceries you need to take with you and it will also dictate what cooking equipment you’ll need to take, for example a wok, drainer, fish slice etc.
2
CAMPING LANTERNS
3
SOAP OPERA!
Camping lanterns are great for keeping your camp site well lit, but many of them are really bright (as in TOO bright) once you get them into your tent! You can make a softer, more diffused light source using a headlamp and a gallon of water. Just strap the light around the container, with the light pointed towards the water. Much better!
Use a vegetable peeler to shave strips of soap for single uses. A bar of soap is a wonderful thing until you have to put it back in your bag. This usually ends with something in your bag getting soapy that wasn’t intended to be and assuming you are keeping it inside its own plastic bag, with a lot of soapy bubbles and wetness.
STRAW SSS
45
Cut up a straw and fill the pieces up with antibiotic ointment or toothpaste for single-use packets.
FIRE STARTER!
Cotton pads dipped in wax are a crazy easy way to make portable fire starters.

JEHAZIEL ABAYON In HOPE 4, I have learned valuable things that I can use not just in camping but also in different situations. Being resourceful is an essential skill especially in this pandemic wherein we can’t easily get hold of things right away. It is also a skill that we need to survive. Also, I learned that it is important to enjoy things and value every learning process so that in the future everything we plan will be a success and we are satisfied.
23
MARI ADLAWAN Even just for one whole semester in HOPE4, I was able to grasp many learnings that bring me life-long lessons. The topics we have tackled were literally for survival. I have even learnt that if we just know how to be resourceful, then we can succeed in any task or activity we are assigned to do. Lastly, I can use these learnings when camping or even just at home especially when we are in a pandemic. It is essential to learn to have fun even at the comfort of our homes.
24
MECHAELA AGUILAR The skills taught in HOPE4 help students develop their performance, sharpen their strategy and tactics knowledge, and transfer knowledge from one context to another, especially in recreational and outdoor activities. Challenge by choice is a concept that allows for appropriate learning at a level that creates trust. This course really took part in enhancing our communicating skills and the attitude of being considerate to our team mates, since we've been tasked to do all the activities in a form of teams. Overall, even if we had to do all the activities online, I still enjoyed doing all the tasks and for sure I have learned a lot. satisfied. 25
JOAQUIN ARIG Just like how the best conversations happen around a campfire, HOPE4 taught me that camping and mountaineering are things a person should definitely experience at least once in their lives. While it may be difficult at first in terms of the knowledge and equipments it demands — it seems like an amazing experience. Aside from the pleasure it provides, it makes us engage in physical activities to improve our lives overall in all aspects, whether it is physically, mentally, or emotionally.
26
SHANDY BAGUIO This semester, I've learned that the topics in HOPE 04 are useful and beneficial in the actual practice of mountaineering because they mainly discussed the basic equipment that one should have before engaging in the activity. It covered the different parts and aspects of mountaineering through group activities. Along with learning, I was able to reflect on my previous mountaineering experiences and evaluate the things that I did incorrectly. This helped me to deepen my understanding and knowledge of mountaineering.
27
MARY BALAGON In this subject, I learned many unique things that I may have not appreciated before but because of this subject I appreciate it now. I thought that what I learned when I was still in grade ten was enough but I realized that it’s not because with this subject even if we are learning at home I still understood and grasped on what it means to survive, especially when camping. Survive that even if we are not camping but we still can apply it in different aspects in our day to day lives..
28
KAFKA BENITEZ I have learned a lot of things in this subject and these are things that I would bring today and in the future. I may not be into camping or hiking at this moment, but I sure will benefit from the things that I have learned. Because these learnings can also be applied in other situations in our daily lives.
