COVER LETTER

I am an ambitious young architect, who has been consistently praised by his fellow professionals for his passion for architecture. I am the recipient of Pakistan’s prestigious “Mehdi Ali Mirza Award” for my academic excellence and have been awarded multiple scholarships during the course of my academics. I have also participated in numerous architecture competitions and won a closed competition to design flagship INSEAD Business School by ADEK in AbuDhabi and also SAARC architectural school design competition in India that got me published in Architimes and Archinama newspaper. I am also honored to be a part of Archiply an organization of young architects that are involved in conducting yearly held international summer school architectural workshops at my university campus in Pakistan, where we focus on making project briefs that identify and might help in making better planning decision in Pakistan. With more than 5 years of diverse working experience in Pakistan and in the UAE, I had the opportunity to work on various building typologies in Islamabad, Lahore, Dubai, Sharjah, Lagos, and Cairo. My scope included all phases of design, client meetings and preparation of client presentations. I am well versed in almost all necessary cad software’s for 3d modeling, animation and visualization. I am an artist at heart who likes to design things as a hobby. Process oriented design excites me and i pick up design problems fast and come up with multiple design solutions. I am a perfectionist by nature, who is willing to go a step beyond to get things done.

ADEK INSEAD Business School ABUDHABI, UAE

Considering Mina Zayed as a future Art District, we proposed a space open to everybody, its not

only for students but also a public space. We imagined it like a park, a space which creates a chance to communicate. It is a space that actively encourages students to choose where to go, do their work and study, get together and

talk to their friends. It becomes condusive to learning, this building will be open and active

from morning to midnight everyday. Giving it a

night life by providing remote working spaces, multipurpose space and cafes to support this

ambition. A place which is dedicated to students, where they not just study but live. The building has an amibition of openess and uniqueness

to spread a lifestyle of entreprenuership and innovation.

CREEK HARBOUR MOSQUE DUBAI, UAE

The mosque is a fusion between a grand mosque

and a district mosque. The four main archways stand

60 meters tall and light falls through its translucent marble facade. The Prayer hall is veiled with brushed

gold aluminum screen. At night these archways

become lanterns of the path which spread across the urban fabric; glow, direct, reveal, and frame the Creek tower, the streets in between and the Downtown.

BURJ KHALIFA

CREEK TOWER

The site is rectangular as it is supposed to be for a grand mosque, but the qibla is not aligned. A challenge that often comes up in a district mosque. All the while establishing a dialouge with the central axis

Al Mamzar Beach Tower DUBAI, UAE

Edward Hopper’s famous painting “NightHawk”

1942 inspired tower. Chiclet pattern precast

walls wrap around this tower. The absence of these panels create a frame and at times outdoor

balconies. The use of transparent glass and soft corners increase the viewing angle and at the

same time frames both the inside out and the outside in.

The project came in while the foundations were

already laid, hence the structure was predetermind.

The brief was to convert a mixed use building to residential tower. Six residential units per typical floor with tower standing 25 floors tall.

Rooftop Restaurant ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN

To design a structure on third floor of a bulding.

The structure had to be light weight so that the roof slab could bear the weight. The structure needed to frame the beautiful hills towards

the north. The idea was to design light weight umbrellas that when organized could serve as a pavillion for enjoying desi food with a scenic view.

Site is located in commercial zone of islamabad.

It captures scenic views from the rooftop of this building. The client wanted to capture these views for a restaurant of 55-60 people. The idea sparked from the existing lightweight umbrellas on the site.

8’ x 8’ x 8’ bounding Cube responds to a single group sitting and human scale

The central support is moved to accomodate a sitting and furniture.

The scale responds to the site and the program Rain water is drained by the inverted canopy

Embedded light at the base plate reflects and acts as a lamp. Stainless steel cladding further starts to dissolve and reflect the surroundings

Modularity & Scalability

The collection of modules make outdoor and indoor spaces As the small module accomodated group sitting and dinning space, a scaled up module accomodates the kitchen’s function The modules are cladded such that they can use stainless steel sheets effiectively and present a calculated seam and joint as an ornament

NAYA PAKISTAN HOUSING SOLUTION #LETUSBUILD ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN

Three rentable units (basement, ground & first floor

NAYA PAKISTAN HOUSING SOLUTION #LETUSBUILD ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN

Diagram 2- A practical business model adopted by many is building a single house which is divided into 3 separate units. A basement

floor unit, a ground floor unit and a first floor unit, all with a separate access. These units become rentable and create an income stream for the owner and investors. Compared to a commercial plot, the investment in the residential zone is lower.

NAYA PAKISTAN HOUSING SOLUTION #LETUSBUILD ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN

Diagram 3- Considering the new changes in by laws for unlimited F.A.R proposed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan to encourage building highrise structures which is supposedly focused just for the commercial zone

if the same is considered (Ground + 6 floors) for specific zones in residential areas, it would encourage private owners to build their own

property. Who are already eager to build more for rentable income and would also attract investors.

Owners who are allowed to build higher give back a chunk of space for public use, such as a community pool, gym, library, gallery. A part

of this also becomes retail, shops and restaurants. Creating a vibrant and a rich experience on the street.

The ground and basement becomes parking, public and retail zones on irregular intervals and the massing above becomes private and rentable residential zones Each level above tucks inwards to allow light and ventilation for the people on the street.

NAYA PAKISTAN HOUSING SOLUTION #LETUSBUILD ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN

Diagram 4- Optimistic Assesment:

- Private owner encouraged to build

- Increases the housing units per sector and the population density. Lowering the rent per unit for households.

- Development of professional expertise associated with construction industry by building for this planning regulation

- To initiate such a project, a online digital documentation and authority approval division needs to be developed to ensure safety & quick process.

- A more rich and dynamic environment for public at the street level by creating ocassional mixed use program at the ground level.
