Covid-19 – The Hazard Coronaviruses are a large family of virus that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as MERS-Cov and SARS-Cov. The official name for this new disease, not previously seen in humans, is COVID19. On March 11 2020, the World Health Organisation (WHO) categorised it as a pandemic, which, in WHO terms, is the “worldwide spread of disease” This risk assessment recognises the virus as a hazard. It also reflects that it is spread in minute water droplets that are expelled from the body by coughing, sneezing, talking and breathing. The virus can also be transferred to the hands and from there, onto surfaces where it can survive for a period on those surfaces.

Hierarchy of Control

Elimination Elimination is the best form of control. We can only eliminate the virus through vaccination, so there is very little that can be done, since a vaccination is unavailable at present. Substitution Next in descending order is substitution. Replacing the virus with something less harmless is not possible. Engineering Controls • • • •

Perspex screen installed at the reception desk and our card machine will be cleaned between each use. Screens installed between backwash stations A Dew® air misting machine will be running periodically in the salon. A Dew® fogging machine will be used 3 times per day to fully sanitise the salon (before the start of each shift and at the end of the day)

Administrative Controls – System of work and Procedures Administration controls will consist of, but not limited to, the following: • Guests will only be seen by appointment. No walk-ins will be allowed. • Guests are to attend their appointment alone wherever possible. • Guests will be asked to wait outside to be greeted by their Stylist or the Receptionist as the waiting area will be out of action. This is to avoid a build-up of people inside the salon. • Upon entry, the Guest will be given hand sanitiser. They will also be asked to hang their own coat in a disposable bag, if they cannot bring their own carrier to store any coats or jackets during their appointment,

we can provide one. We will ask Guests to wear a mask during their appointment. We would be grateful if you could bring your own, however, if that is not possible, we will have extra supplies in the salon. We will be using disposable gowns and towels. These will be disposed of in nominated bins upon completion. Magazines will no longer be provided. There will be a ratio of 1:1 - Stylist to Guest, but someone else may wash your hair or remove your colour. This again will avoid too many people in the salon at any one time. On days where there are fewer stylists working, there may be more than one Guest per stylist, always adhering to social distancing guidelines. We will allow extra time between appointments for thorough cleaning and disinfecting of worstations, chairs and tools, and where necessary appointment times will be staggered to ensure safe distancing between Guests at all times. To make up for the extra time between appointments, we will be opening earlier and closing later so that we can still 8fulfil as many appointments as is possible. Staff will be asked to keep their fingernails short and rings or watches will not be worn, all our staff will be wearing the appropriate PPE (see below). Door handles, toilets, stair handrails, card payment machine and other regular touch points will be cleaned and disinfected regularly throughout the day.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for staff The following PPE will be issued to staff. (Sufficient PPE will be readily available & stocks will be checked daily) • Face mask • Disposable gloves • Disposable apron • Dew® Hand sanitiser Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Guests The following PPE will be issued to Guests (if they cannot provide their own) • Disposable face mask (if the Guest cannot supply their own) • Disposable gown • Disposable towel • Dew® Hand sanitiser (where guests do not have their own) Behavioural Changes for Staff • • •

• • • •

If you are unwell, stay at home, do not attend work. If you have symptoms of Covid-19 Self-Isolate for 7 days. Wear the PPE supplied by your employer Hygiene – wash hands often for a minimum of 20 seconds with soap and water. Use Dew® Hand sanitiser where soap and water are not readily available. This is particularly important where public transport has been used. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. Adhering to social distancing protocols wherever possible. Avoid close contact with those who are ill. Always carry tissues to cover your coughs or sneezes then put the tissue in the bin – Catch it – Kill it – Bin it

Risk assessments for new & expectant mothers, disabled workers etc. Making sure that the steps you take do not have an unjustifiable negative impact on some groups compared to others, for example, those with caring responsibilities or those with religious commitments.
