DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

As every person is unique so is their understanding of design philosophy. The design has many branches and one has to find which is that critical element that keeps it going for the individual. The beauty of the space lies in the exemplary harmony of function and form. Any space could be functional by adding the required aspect to it but it becomes an environment when human-centered design and human behavioral environment and form are considered. A sense of belongingness is added by that, so the design speaks for itself. My philosophy is to design with purpose, defnition and focus using the aspects of light, texture, color and various other elements of design. It is an unexpected rain of human behavior and Nature. The combination of all this makes design astute.

TABLE OF CONTENT

AANAND SALON Commercial Project Inside Outside Zen Cultural Camouflage

The aim for doing this salon topic is to understand the different aspect of commercial areas. The salon is in Shahibaugh, Ahmedabad, India. There is no luxurious salon nearby to the site. The salon will definatley be a spot for relaxation and self-soothing. The salon has an open terrace with beautiful metal pargola (Wood grain painted) and gardening over the terrace which overlooks the main road which will definately be an attractive spot. The terrace has space for kids to play so ladies can bring kids and can relax. This is a luxurious salon so had to decide a concept that fits in the site perfectly with clientâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s requirements. So took Moroccan as my concept as it has bold colours and is famous for its geometrical patterns and metal n wood work with beautiful lanterns and lamps. The space requirmets were keeping the ladies salon in mind and making it look not so bold and more feminine. It has lower ceiling so had to think according to that in choosing colours , materials and space division. The materials and colours used are teak, white, brown, grey, black and mustard. The space feels wider with less obstrucals and the teak brick flooring and wooden ceiling makes the space more dramatic and bold. The space should not have more narrow areas or joints as the dust and dirt may fall. The main aspect of salon is its lightings as it has to aesthetcical and at the same time very functional and usable and efficient.

It is one of the most common uses of directional luminaries. It is usually shortened to just downlights.

A directional luminaire can use any combination of simple shades, polished reflectors to control light, and the available range of beam spreads is almost infinte, some can even be adjustable.

The site is currently situtated at IIM Residence Quarters, Ahmedabad, India for Professors. The task was to design Interiors in the space without changing any Exterior elements as to Preserve the Historic Elements and Place Attachment. The family profile given stated a couple whoâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s profession was Fashion Designers. The family has 5 members, 1 couple, a 4 year old child and 2 retired adults aged 68. The family has a collection of 50 Textiles and is showcased in different parts of the house with different elements. As the family heads are fashion designers, they like classy, suttle and modern interiors. They ask for bright colours with white. The couple asked for terrace garden, cocktail bar and sitting at terrace so that they can spend time there or have small parties there without disturbing theie parents. They want wooden flooring as it adds to the beauty. The lady wants maintaince free furniture as she is a working lady. So get less time to spend at home.

OPPURTUNITY : The desire for a simpler life with more time for what’s important and less time cleaning and worrying and working to pay a mortgage and at the same time taking baby steps towards environment. The “tiny house movement” started in the late 80s. Many people were looking to downsize, declutter, and live more simply in between 100 - 400 square feet which can be moved from one location to another or built on permanent foundations. The project revolves around Sustainbility approach which includes the use of materials in foundation, construction, Interiors and solar energy. For the project, 60 Sustainable Materials were studied and after understanding pros and cons of each for the particular task the material was choosen. For further design approach, Compost Toilets to be imposed on the design. The project was conduscted by Saloni Patel, Juana Ferrufino, Shruti Narkar and Bhuvi Kalra.

RAY LIGHT Light Fixture Design Re-claimed Re-use Traditional Sleek

Based on the brief given i.e., use reclaimed wood for the product , I was thinking on aproduct from wood in context to traditional India e.g., khatla , chakla belan Etc. Further selected rolling pin ( Belan ) and rolling board (chakla) as my element as the round character of belan is more significant and relates with each other. The linear form of belan and circular form of chakla interestingly configurated as one entity lighting product.

Hands - on Model Started to make demo model of paper to understand the thickness of the groove and understand how much thickness and width needed between each slit. Hands on model was made from reclaimed wooden Rolling pin.

OTHER PROJECTS Residence Project

Ramvatika is a weekend hosue on the Bay of river Narmada, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India and is surrounded by farms on all 4 sides. The location gets beautiful open views and breeze. The Open layout concept of the house is to enhance the beauty of the house and give benefit of location. The material and color choices are very neutral and basic. The nature is been depicted by bringnig in marble water-jet cut outs in floors and walls. The balance of nature and function is achived beautifully in this project.

Retreat House is on the other side of the Ramvatika House which is also on the Bay of the river Narmada in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The hosue has beautiful Double height Conservatory which has space for Green space and for Birds to come in and chirp. The house is been designed in very urban manner where the facade treatment and the interior is very raw and subtle, only the green spaces speak.
