STEP 3
» Wind the hair using the right size of the bending rollers/rods and the right technique for the desired hairstyle.
» For thick hair, use a medium section, and for finer hair, a thicker section. Work your way from the hairline down to the nape.
» Comb the section through. Use end paper for the tips.
» Always wind with tension according to the desired curl result. Do not apply PERM Lotion prior to winding.
STEP 4
» Use a Goldwell Hair Band or cotton wool to protect your client.
HAIR ELASTICITY TEST: To determine which PERM Lotion to use for your client’s hair structure (or condition), a quick and easy elasticity test should be carried out prior to the service.
Conduct the test on the most damaged hair strands. Take a small section and wet the hair. Choose 1–3 hairs from this section. With both hands, hold the hair firmly between the thumb and index finger and lightly stretch it, making sure to avoid any pulling sensation for the client. the hair stretches and breaks, it is lacking both moisture and proteins. The PERM Service is not ideal for highly damaged hair structures. Recommend an in-salon deep treatment and a home care regimen to help establish a good hair structure. Reevaluate at the next visit. If the hair springs back to shape, carry on with the service.

STEP 5
Thoroughly saturate (2 to 3 times) each bending roller/rod with the chosen PERM Lotion (R/N/SD/D type) Work from nape to hairline.
Repeat 2 to times. Use paper towels to prevent dripping.
Wear suitable gloves.
Process according to usage instructions. Processing time always depends on test curl.
STEP 6
Use a test curl to check if the hair has reached the desired curl level (unwind bending rollers/rods 1/2 times and check a curl pattern):
Processing time too short: limp and weak curl
Optimal processing time: dynamic fall of the wave Processing time too long: limp, weak curl and damaged hair
STEP 7
On completion of the processing time, thoroughly rinse the PERM Lotion from the hair for at least 3 minutes.
STEP 8
» Carefully blot with a towel to remove excess water.
» Apply PERM FIX Neutraliser on top of bending rollers/rods using an application bottle. Thoroughly saturate each bending roller/rod (2 to 3 times). Use 2/3 of full recommended amount. Process for 7 minutes.
STEP 9: Option 1
» Carefully remove the bending rollers/rods. Do not pull down the hair. Reapply small amount of PERM FIX Neutraliser Apply the remaining 1/3 of full recommended amount. Process for further 3 minutes.
STEP 9: Option 2 Color Perming
» Replace the second neutralising step with Colorance The Colorance or Colorance Gloss Tones shades mixed with System Developer Lotion 2% (7 vol.) can be used instead of the second neutralising step when color refresh is needed. Process for 15 minutes (Colorance shades) or 10 minutes (Colorance Gloss Tones shades) without heat, then rinse thoroughly (3 to 5 minutes). Do not pull down the hair during the processing time.
» Use a suitable StyleSign product to give the curls a perfect finish.

A consultation is important before any chemical service and can help you understand the client’s needs and respect the integrity of the hair.
If the hair passes the elasticity test (see inside pages), choose a PERM Lotion that is suitable for the hair condition to give the client the end result they desire.
