Last Hope Direct from last weekend’s NY Surf Film Festival, Aussie surf filmmaker Andrew Kidman is here tonight to present his new film at 8pm. A compilation of 16 original short films, with the score being performed live by his band, The Windy Hills. Held at the Be True gallery space,Third Avenue Pavillion, you can also catch a look at rock photographer Danny Clinch’s Bruce Springsteen retrospective before it closes on Oct. 4. Tickets are $12, available in advance from Lightly Salted Surf Mercado [1000 Ocean]. Seating is limited for this concept performance. Making History There’s been paranormal activity next to 627 Cookman for some time now, but today, the latest addition to Downtown AP officially opens it’s doors as The Paranormal Museum. Your curator...none other than Paranormal Books + Curiosities own Kathy Kelly. Her 1st exhibit, the Jersey Devil Expedition of 1819, will “bring to life, and back to life, the hidden and unstudied world that exists within our own” says Kathy. Full of artifacts + relics from the legendary secret Pine Barrens, NJ 1819 expedition, the museum is now open to the public, with hours on Thursdays 5-8pm, Fridays + Saturdays 12-10pm, and Sundays 12-7pm. Tickets $5

Bonfire Tonite. But First...

It’s First Saturday! Celebrating the talents of their many artist and merchant friends on Asbury’s Art Block [Cookman between Main + Bond], Parlor Gallery’s Juicy Jenn, Jill, and Michael host an opening reception from 7 - 11 tonite for their latest exhibit, aptly titled Art Bloc [thru Nov. 8]. James Vance , Adam Wallacavage, Scott + Gene from Shelter Home, Robert Melle, Porkchop and more have created vignettes showcasing furniture, paintings, and limited edition artist wallpaper + pillows. 717 Cookman

Facing HIV + Homelessness: the Mask Project Revealed View the first of 3 exhibits of The Center in Asbury Park’s community-wide mask making project at the 3rd Annual Garden Party @ Center House [806 Third Ave] being held today from 3-5pm. Led by Corynne Wilson in an effort to raise consciousness through art, about 60 oneoff masks were cast and embellished in the project, a collaboration of many diverse Asbury locals, leaders, groups, and artists. A silent auction to benefit The Center begins today and continues throughout all the exhibits. Next Up: Langosta Lounge’s Halloween Party Benefit on Oct 29, with the final show at Trinity Church on World Aids Day, Dec 1.

Head over to the Carousel to catch another awesome surf film this week that’s hot off the NY Surf Film Festival. Searching for Michael Peterson, Jolyon Hoff’s intense moving tribute to a true 70’s Australian surfing icon, whose career was cut short by mental illness. SFMP will screen following a live acoustic set by Aussie singer/songwriter and world champ surfer Beau Young @ 7:30 pm. Beau, fresh on his first US tour with the film is also the son of one of the world most famous surfers, Nat Young. Bonfire on the First Avenue Beach will follow the 8:30 screening. Tonite’s free events are hosted by the Asbury Park Film Initiative.

Also tonite: Down the block @ Art629 is the work of returning local artist Anan, with her 1st showing of Mens Series. 629 Cookman
