A range of accolades and awards have been given to The King’s School in Macclesfield, reflecting both the school’s academic and sporting achievements. The co-ed in de pendent school in Macclesfield is the first school in the country to be awarded a Gold Award for the quality of pupil learning. The award is the culmination of eight years’ work with The Learning Organisation (TLO) to embed teaching methods that enhance pupils' reasoning, resilience and questioning skills.

Deputy Head, Mr Griffiths, said: "Our ethos is to prepare young people for life beyond their formal education. The aim is to improve the pupils' independent learning, ensuring they think and discover for themselves and therefore, develop skills that will serve them throughout the rest of their lives."

The school’s academic results have seen a significant year-on-year improvement, and this was recognised nationally when King’s was listed in The Sunday Times’ top 10 inde pendent schools in the North West for academic results. The Parent Power Guide 2023 put King’s in 7th position, amongst the very best-performing schools in the region. In 2022, a remarkable 52% of all A-level grades were A*/A.

The school has also achieved its highest ever ranking in a national league table for sport. The School Sport Magazine tables saw King’s feature in the top 25 schools ac ross the UK for achievements across all sporting disciplines. The ranking includes both independent and state schools and is based on performance in national compe titions in all sports. King’s current U13 boys’ cricket team are the reigning na tional champions, a title not won by a Cheshire school for over 40 years. Significant successes have also been notched up at re gional and national in netball, girls’ hockey, boys’ hockey, rugby and trampolining.

Director of Sport, Chris Thomson, said: “It is fantastic to have this national recognition for the hard work and achievements of our pupils across all age groups and in all sports, we are thrilled to be in the top 25 schools in the country.”
