Glossy Mag: What is the story behind Fixx Salons?

Lauren Bickerton: Fixx salons was founded in June 2018 by business owners and brothers Matt and Tom Agass, with the help of myself and Ben Mayne, both of us hairstylists. The team wanted to provide a space where hair, beauty and aesthetics could be incorporated all under one roof and a chic and welcoming atmosphere would bring city-centre edge and culture into suburban town Altrincham. Fixx Salons boasts a light and airy space in which hair creatives can work their magic, offering clients an unrushed and relaxing experience. The salon has teamed up with Natasha Filippidi of Skin Deep Medispa and Aesthetic Doctor, Dr Simona Juverdeanu MRCGP, DCH, DFSRH, LoC SDI/IUD to bring you the very best in the business.
GM: How has the Covid-19 pandemic affected the salon and how do you intend to adapt moving forward
LB: We had a lot of 'post-lockdown' hair to help with, to say the least! Like most of the salons in the area, we have had to close our doors numerous times across 2020 and 2021. With client cancellations and lockdowns, it’s been a challenging two years for business. We now face the issue of maintaining business whilst we are still in the midst of the pandemic and times are uncertain. We are blessed to have such a spacious area to work in, and we have worked hard to maintain a clean, sterile environment during this time and we aim to continue to do this for the foreseeable future. We had a lot of projects planned for 2020 that had to be put on hold, which has slowed progress down more than we would have liked, but we are hoping we can get back to them soon, which is exciting!
GM: How do you maintain team morale?
LB: We have a talented, experienced and welcoming team. It has been just as hard for them as it has for us over the last two years. We pride ourselves on education, whether it be a workshop on learning new techniques, or even just taking some time to care for our teams' mental health. We are only as good as our team! Trends are changing all the time, so it’s really important to stay current and to create that buzz about the salon.
GM: Can you reveal the key hair trends for 2022?
LB: Rich, red-brunette tones and cool platinum colours are HOT for 2022. The bob is still current – playing around with different lengths can really change up your look – and undone box braids for more of an urban feel are popular too. We love to follow trends, but we pride ourselves on suitability and knowing how to make the best out of our clients’ hair, making looks super easy to recreate at home.
