Promises 3 Leading Automakers Make on the Future of Cars At a time when cars auctions are a regular affair in places such as San Diego, talking about future cars may seem like a digression. They are two different worlds. But let’s divert our attention from all those seized or repo cars at auctions for a while. With rapid advancement in the field of automobile engineering, car enthusiasts can only expect amazing announcements from automakers in the foreseeable future. From as soon as 2020 to later time 2050, the markets will be flooded with electric cars, hybrid cars, driverless cars and so on. Speculation are high as to what these futuristic cars will look like and what will power them. Fasten your seatbelt and check out what 3 prominent automakers are saying on what their future cars will be like.

1. Volkswagen This German automaker recently kicked off its ‘TOGETHER – Strategy 2025’ with a declared vision to become a world-leader in sustainable mobility through collaborative ventures. It said the focus of the company will be on electrification and smartening up of cars to bring highly automated driving experience to car lovers. Recently, Volkswagen introduced Sedric, a fully autonomous vehicle that offers greater comfort and convenience than ordinary cars. This vehicle also promises to slash the number of road accident-related deaths. Its ‘Level 5’ autonomy means there’s no need for human intervention while driving. Sounds impressive.

2. Audi Audi, which is a member of the Volkswagen Group, assumed a more aggressive marketing posture. It announced that they were rolling out ‘Level 3’ automation in the A8 model this year, which means it is a car that can drive itself sometimes. Audi promises to introduce fully autonomous cars in the market by 2020. It said that by 2025, 30 percent of the sales will be related to partially or fully electrified vehicles. Carbon-neutral, alternative driving technologies characterized by lower emission rates and high performance are what Audi is reportedly working hard on. Another focus area of this giant automotive company will be on developing intelligent drive options as a means of future mobility.

3. General Motors General Motors’ Super Cruise, a semi-autonomous system for highway driving, debuted in the fall of 2017 on the Cadillac CT6. The only thing drivers are required to do is switch on the autopilot mode when they hit the highway, and the system’s in-built sensors will take over and track the head movements of a driver, prodding them to keep focused on the road even as the computer-assisted technology drives on. It may be mentioned that earlier this year GM has already delivered on its promise of electrified vehicle, the Chevy Bolt EV, which gives an unbelievable 238 miles per charge.

Bottom Line In sum, the future cars will be electrified, pilotless and effortless. Along with this, environmental sustainability and safety to life will be other considerations that will be reflected in the designs of these vehicles. For the time being, it appears developing such advanced cars is the stronghold of few leading brands only. The extent of research funding and development costs such projects require discourage small players. Apart from this, affordability to customers remains a big question that only future will answer.
