Top 3 Muscle Cars to Look for at Auctions The production years of muscle cars were perhaps the most exciting period of the American automotive industry. These big, ultra-powerful and loud machines produced between the 1960s and 70s are still ruling the hearts of many automobile enthusiasts. If you too are crazy about these fast cars and have the desire to show-off one in your garage, muscle cars auctions are the right place to search for these mean machines. While there might be many options available, we list the top three that lead the race. 1970 Plymouth GTX 440

The flashy GTX440 was the James Bond of the Plymouth line and was referred to as “gentleman’s muscle car”. The muscle car with square-jawed looks, GTX440 has standard a 440 cubic inch V8 engine with 375hp. As the car had many features similar to Plymouth Roadrunner, there were some sales issues even after a minor redesign. The stylists introduced a power bulge hood and made the lines smoother. Non-functional rear brake air scoops were also added to the car. The convertible model was discontinued in 1970 and Air Grabber hood was introduced that had only one narrow opening. 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 The Mustang Boss 429 is a rare bird as less than 1,400 cars were built between 1969 and 1970. The Mustang Boss that enjoyed the reputation of a big-dog wasn’t the giant killer and its 429-cubic-inch V-8 engine delivered 375hp, which was less than many others in the list. The hand-built quality was one thing that was truly notable about the Ford Mustang Boss 429.

Not many know that there were three different engines installed in Boss 429 built in 1969 and 70. The hardcore “S-Code” engine was filled with race-duty parts and installed in early cars. The “T-Code” had lighter-duty parts and installed in some cars. The “A-Code” engine had smog equipment and new valvetrain, and was installed in the last production line of Ford Boss 429. 1967 Pontiac GTO

Dodging the General Motors ban on putting big engines in into small cars, Pontiac slipped a 389-cubic-inch V-8 engine into GTO and the car received an overwhelming response. The success paved the way for Oldsmobile, Chevrolet and Buick muscle cars. While the 1964 Pontiac is widely regarded as the first of the breed of muscle cars, 1967 as the first full model year of availability of GTO with 400-cubic-inch V-8 engine that delivered 360 horsepower.
