World Day of Prayer 2016 Together in Prayer with Cuba ‘RECEIVE CHILDREN, RECEIVE ME’ was the theme of the 2016 World Day of Prayer with emphasis from Isaiah 11:1-10 and Mark 10:13-16. The invitation was to learn from their own generation, to put children at the centre of God’s Kingdom and to hear Jesus’ call to be that child. Around the world we joined together in the blessing ‘Receive children, receive me!’ Women in every part of the international Salvation Army world gathered in joyful and inspiring celebration as God’s Word was delivered powerfully. Singing was filled with thanksgiving and praise and prayers were lifted especially for the children in Cuba, where the need is great among families and children are suffering in many ways. Salvationists all over the world participated in Bible studies, women’s events and community ecumenical services to celebrate the World Day of Prayer with many hosting these events at the Salvation Army corps building. The World Day of Prayer services were well attended by women and men and everyone spoke about how important it is that they can gather together in fellowship and pray together in these critical days in our society. International Headquarters held a service with officers and employees taking part. The programme was presented in various ways including drama and creative scripture presentations. The decorations and displays were very colourful as they not only represented the beautiful land of Cuba but focused on the beautiful children of Cuba. There were lots of creativity and relevance as DVDs and PowerPoints were filled with excellent pictures of places and people who are part of this beautiful land which gave those who attended a view of the culture and needs of its people. One beautiful feature for Salvationists was that we were able to speak about the growing ministry of the Salvation Army in Cuba and prayers were given on behalf of the many children who attended our meetings and youth events. Many beautiful pictures were taken and shared in the reports. Thank you to everyone for your support, participation and leadership of the World Day of Prayer in your part of God’s world. We give him all honour, praise and glory! Rosalie Peddle Commissioner, World Secretary for Women’s Ministries
