It’s more than 80 years since Disney’s Pinocchio was released. Now there’s a brand new live-action version of this beloved tale coming to Disney Plus. Geppetto is a woodcarver who builds a puppet called Pinocchio. Geppetto loves Pinocchio so much that when he sees a falling star outside his window, he wishes that the puppet could become a real boy. During the night, the Blue Fairy grants Geppetto’s wish. Puppet Pinocchio comes to life but he must prove himself worthy so that he can become a boy for real. The Blue Fairy asks Jiminy Cricket to help Pinocchio and be his However, conscience.onemorning Geppetto sends Pinocchio off to school when Jiminy is still sleeping. Poor trusting Pinocchio soon gets himself into all sorts of trouble and falls into the clutches of ‘Honest’ John. He’ll need plenty of help from Jiminy to get back to safety and hopefully turn from wooden puppet to real boy! ‘Pinocchio’ is available on Disney Plus now. For more information about subscription prices, visit disneyplus.com
I love this week’s front cover. As soon as I saw the picture of Pinocchio holding the hand of his creator, Geppetto, I thought about my relationship with my creator, God. Pinocchio is far from perfect. The way he behaves you could hardly blame Geppetto if he decided he wanted nothing more to do with Pinocchio. However, Geppetto loves his creation and far from turning his back on Pinocchio, he keeps doing all he can to help him be the very best ‘boy’ he can be. To be honest, there have been times when I’ve thought that God wanted nothing more to do with me. The truth is, whenever I’ve felt like that it’s me who’s turned my back on God by making bad choices. God loves us and wants the best for us. We just have to remember to keep on reaching up to him, so he can guide us.

Recently, I went to the cinema and as the film played I noticed there was an issue with the screen. Eventually, I told a staff member. At the end of the film, the manager apologised, and gave everyone a refund and free tickets to come back again.

I’d like to think that by speaking up I made a difference and the other cinemagoers were pleased with the outcome. But in the grand scheme of things it probably counted more as a happy surprise. Someone who always makes a real difference in people’s lives is Jesus. And with the gift of the Holy Spirit, Jesus helps us to make positive differences in people’s lives too. In this week’s Bible story, we see that with the help of the Holy Spirit, Peter heals a man and uses the opportunity to tell others about Jesus. Telling others about Jesus is very special. It gives them the opportunity to experience just how much God loves them. I can imagine that the man in the story might have felt very sad having to beg every day. He’d probably prefer to be doing fun things with his friends. But Peter was able to show him how much God cared. Instead of giving the man money like everyone else, Peter went one step further and healed him. Now the man was free to enjoy life and do things that he hadn’t been able to do before. Would you like to make a difference? Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit how you can show others that God loves them too. Education Sunday is an opportunity to be thankful for those who teach us. Good teachers make learning fun and get you excited about a subject. They also give you tools that help you to be fair, just andTeacherskind. help people to understand difficult subjects or introduce them to new ideas. They can inspire, encourage and help you to get ready for the future and discover your purpose. When you learn something, the feel-good chemical dopamine is released in your brain. That helps you to cope with stress. It also boosts your energy levels and ability to fight off illness.
Nice One!
So, what’s so great about going to school? Learning gives us skills that help us to have a better future. Learning is good for your brain and can give you confidence to take on new challenges or find creative solutions to problems. Living a healthy and an active lifestyle and caring for your physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
It’s also an opportunity to thank God for the freedom and joy of learning. Not everyone has this opportunity – more than 260 million children in the world can’t go to school because of poverty, war or unjust laws!

Education Sunday
Education Sunday is a special day of celebration for everyone involved in education. Tomorrow (11 September) churchgoers all over the United Kingdom will pray for children and teachers!
Brilliant Booster Love Learning
Jesus is the best teacher of all! He used short tales called parables to help people learn about God’s love and discover the best way to live their lives. The Bible is the best book in the world to study! It tells the history of amazing people of faith. It’s full of awesome stories that help us to discover who God is.
Show others that God loves them and they don’t need to feel lost. Include them in your games, invite them to your church or kids club – or give them a small gift showing them they’re special to God. Attend an Education Sunday meeting or service near you. Pray for your teachers and for lonely people at your school. Ask God to help you as you learn together. For more info go to cte.org.uk/educationsunday2022
Be thankful for the opportunity to learn. Write down your favourite subjects and why you love learning about them. Think about how they’ll help you to prepare for the future.
Ask a grown-up to help you find some Lost Sheep or Lost Coin-related crafts online and have fun creating props for a storytelling time. Here are some ways you can celebrate Education Sunday… Read the stories of the Lost Coin and the Lost Sheep in Luke 15. Paint a picture telling the story. Or write a script and put on a short play with your friends.
Lost and Found
Education Sunday’s theme this year is ‘You Are Not Lost!’ Many children can feel lost and lonely at school. Some people find it hard to make friends, are super shy or struggle to talk about how they feel. Sometimes illness or needing to care for someone means that a young person misses out on school or social activities. The coronavirus pandemic has also made it difficult for some children to fit in socially, which makes them nervous about going to school. 13
Simply the Best
Be a Friend
Jesus told stories about a coin and a sheep that were lost and then found (check out Luke 15:3–10). He wanted us to understand that when somebody feels lost and afraid, God looks for them until he finds them. Every person is valuable and precious to him, and there’s a party in Heaven when a person who feels lost makes God their friend! God wants us to have the same attitude –we can help lonely classmates experience God’s love by being their friend.
Make thank you cards for your teachers, telling them everything you appreciate about them.
