Have you done that thing at school where you look after a load of caterpillars and wait till they change into butterflies? I loved doing that as a kid! From egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly, I remember being fascinated by every stage. I also remember learning a cool word – metamorphosis. Metamorphosis means to transform or change shape and describes the changes that happen during a butterfly’s life cycle. Metamorphosis can also be used to describe a change that takes place in a person. The Bible is full of stories about people who changed – for example, Zacchaeus the cheating tax collector, who was transformed after meeting Jesus. But these amazing transformations don’t just happen in the Bible. Even today people discover Jesus, make a choice to be his friend and show a big change in the way they behave once they start living Jesus’ way. Are you ready to make a change?

magine you’re walking along one day and you see someone who’s been hurt. What would you do? Hopefully, you would check to see that they’re OK and call for help. Now, imagine that person is someone you really don’t like. What if they’re someone who you’ve heard is a bully or you’ve been told they’re always mean to others. How would you react then? While I’m writing all I can think of is the image of Patrick Hutchinson carrying Bryn Male over his shoulder. You’ve probably seen the photo I’m referring to – it’s of a black man at a Black Lives Matter rally carrying an injured white man to safety. As the injured man lay on the ground it would have been understandable for anyone to think, ‘He’s

by Justin Reeves

probably come here to hurt me or one of my friends today, so I’m just going to leave him – besides if I try to help him I might get hurt myself.’ Thankfully, Patrick organised some of his friends into a protective ring, picked up Bryn and carried him to the police. That’s kind of what this week’s Bible story is all about: helping people, even if they’re people you’re certain you wouldn’t like. Actually, the story of the good Samaritan is about more than just helping people, it’s about loving others and putting their needs before your own, no matter what they look like, where they’re from, what you think of them or anything else. Loving that way can be tough and scary, but you’ve read what Jesus said: go and do likewise.

Psalm 133 The Bible book of Psalms is a collection of songs that help us to tell God how we’re feeling – whether we’re happy, excited, worried or sad. There are psalms praising and thanking God, asking for his help and reminding us that, no matter what, we can always trust him. So however you’re feeling, dig in! There’s sure to be a psalm that’s just right for you.

When we decide to follow Jesus, we join God’s family. Like all families Christians sometimes disagree and fall out. This psalm encourages us to focus and work together towards our common goal, which is to love and serve God, and tell others about Jesus. When we do, we’ll be able to honour God and make a positive difference in the world.

Oh, how wonderful, how pleasing it is when God’s people all come together as one! It is like the sweet-smelling oil that is poured over the high priest’s head, that runs down his beard flowing over his robes. It is like a gentle rain from Mount Hermon falling on Mount Zion. It is there that the Lord has promised his blessing of eternal life. (Easy-to-Read Version)

Dear God,

Please help Christians to work together in love and peace. Help them not to argue or be distracted by issues that will cause them to fall out. But instead help them to be good examples of your truth and love.

Amen. KA! JAM is the cooles t Bible activity club around. As a member you’ll go on amazing adventures through th e Bible learning about Jesus. Slap on a hat! Wearing a wide-brimmed hat that shades your face, neck and ears, helps to protect from sunburn. Without proper eye protection it’s possible to get a temporary, but painful burn to the surface of the eye. So wearing sunglasses as well as a hat is also important. Rainy Day Unfortunately not every day is sunny during summer. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun! Each week we’re going to suggest a fun, rainy day idea that will mean downpours don’t result in down moods.

Make a Mini Ice Hockey Game Create a mini ice hockey game! You’ll need a baking tray, water, freezer, two Post-it notes, two spoons and a button or bottle lid. Add water to the baking tray so there’s enough to create a layer of ice and place the tray carefully into the freezer. Once the water has frozen, take the tray out and stick a Post-it note at either end of the tray to mark the goals. Use spoons as hockey sticks and try to hit your button or lid against the Post-it note at the other end of the tray.

You’ve Got a Friend Sunday morning worship has continued at Plymouth Exeter Hall Whitleigh Salvation Army with the help of Zoom. Even this year’s annual children’s celebration Sunday went ahead! The theme for this year’s celebration came from the Toy Story films. The children led prayers, spoke about friendship and read the Bible, as they explored what makes a good friend. As well as dressing up like Toy Story characters, members of the church were encouraged to make their own Mr and Mrs Potato Head by decorating a potato. This was to remind each person that they are unique, but made in the likeness of God.
