o you enjoy singing at school? Whether it’s during classroom activities or school assemblies, singing with your friends is really fun. Your parents or carers can probably remember belting out primary school hymns when they were younger too. Comedian Jason Manford was even in the charts last year with his song ‘Assembly Bangers’, which mixes old school favourites including ‘He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands’ and ‘This Little Light of Mine’. Telling people about God’s message of love through song is as important as ever. That’s why we want to tell you about something that two Salvation Army teams (Music and Creative Arts and Children and Youth) have partnered up to create. Right Tracks are new, upbeat, pop-style songs about being a Christian and the values of The Salvation Army. In the first volume of 10 songs, there are 5 about faith, covering topics such as prayer and Jesus’ sacrifice. The values-based songs cover themes including respect, thankfulness and caring for creation. So there’s something for everyone – go and have a listen! All the songs can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and other platforms. Alongside the songs, there are lyric videos, assembly plans, resources and activities which teachers and children’s leaders can use to help more children learn about God. Right Tracks launches today (25 March) and is available at salvationarmy.org.uk/right-tracks and on major streaming platforms. For more information contact ‘music@salvationarmy.org.uk’.
I’m so excited about this week’s issue, because we finally get to tell you about Right Tracks! You can read more about that just above this bit. I’m totally convinced that music is a gift from God. It can bring so much joy to those who listen. Some tunes just make me want to jump up and down, and spin right ’round. Other tracks are perfect for chilling out. And I’m not afraid to admit that some music has so much meaning and is so powerful it’s made me cry. In Psalm 150 we’re encouraged to praise God on all sorts of instruments: trumpets, harps, lyres, tambourines, stringed instruments, flutes and cymbals. You might not have any of those instruments to hand, but you do have your voice. Go on, bung on a bangin’ tune from Right Tracks (my favourite is ‘I Say Thank You’) and sing your praises to God!

READ THE COMMENT BELOW ABOUT JESUS HEALING PEOPLE
God Cares About the Sick says Melita Day-Lewis
I
t wasn’t much fun being sick in ancient times. They had such weird ideas about cures. For insomnia (sleeplessness) the Romans suggested slapping dormouse fat on your feet. In the Middle Ages, the mathematician Cardano recommended rubbing teeth with dog’s ear gunk! I don’t think anyone got much sleep after that! It wasn’t great being poorly in Jesus’ time either. There were no modern medicines, hospitals or qualified doctors. People often died. Sometimes the community would have nothing to do with sick people and many ended up begging on the streets. Imagine how awesome it was when Jesus healed someone who was blind, paralysed, suffered with an incurable disease or was controlled by evil powers!
The news and excitement spread like wildfire. More and more sick people came to Jesus to be healed. Jesus also gave his followers power to heal the sick (check out Luke 9:1–2). Not everyone we pray for gets well, but some do. Sometimes God works a miracle that can’t be explained. Sometimes he uses doctors and medicines to heal people or gives us kind friends who support us through an illness. Even when someone we love doesn’t get well, we can trust God to help them and us. God cares about poorly people and he wants you to help them too. If you know someone who’s sick, why don’t you show them Jesus’ love by praying for them, making them a card or offering to help them in a practical way?

My Identity in Jesus Did you know that when you become friends with Jesus he gives you a new identity? You’re a member of God’s Kingdom and with the help of the Holy Spirit, you now have the power to follow Jesus’ way of living.
I Am… HOLY
W
hen something is holy, it’s been set apart for a special purpose for God. As Jesus’ friends, we’ve been chosen and set apart (Ephesians 1:4) so that we can have a relationship with God. God wants us to behave differently to others in the world around us. He wants us to make choices that will help us be more like Jesus. This includes being careful about what we watch and listen to, the kind of words we say and how we treat others. Being holy is also a way of keeping our relationship with Jesus special and showing we want to please God. The more our thoughts and actions follow Jesus’ examples for living, the holier we’ll become. Every day this week, tell yourself ‘I am holy’. This will help God’s truth stay in your heart. Use the chart below to help remind you and tick each day once you’re done.

The cosmos or universe is so enormous and stupendous it’s mind-boggling! Here are some facts about space that are … well, cosmic!
Earth and Moon Earth is the only planet that can support life! It has the right range of temperatures and a layer of gases that surround Earth (atmosphere) that gives us oxygen to breathe. Seventy per cent of Earth’s surface is water. As Earth rotates around the Sun, it also spins around at a slight angle. That means the upper and lower halves of the planet get more or less sunshine at different times of the year. This is what causes seasons.
Earth has one moon which reflects the light of the Sun at night. Every month, the Moon looks like it’s changing shape. That’s because the Earth blocks different parts of the Moon from the Sun’s light as the Moon rotates around Earth. NASA pictures

Marvellous Music! Music is all around us every day. Whether it’s during TV programmes, buskers singing on the street or songs playing in the shops, it’s a big part of our lives. But it’s not just something that happens in the background. Music can do marvellous things.
Because I’m Happy Most people love to sing or dance along to their favourite songs, but did you know that music might also make you healthier? Many studies have shown that music stimulates our brains and helps with things such as pain relief, reducing stress and improving memory. It can even improve someone’s mood or reduce their anxiety. One of the reasons music makes people feel good is because it increases certain chemicals or hormones in your body, such as oxytocin, dopamine and endorphins.
As well as helping our mental health, music can also be a fun way to improve physical health. Turning up the tunes and having a good boogie will get your heart pumping and muscles moving. It’s a real feel-good form of exercise!
Better Together Music also has the power to bring people together. People often bond over the styles of music they love, the artists they enjoy listening to or by attending music events together.
Hearing live music is also a good way to explore new instruments or sounds. Whether it’s concerts at churches, bandstands in the park or other music events, getting yourself along to hear some live music can be very inspiring.

Spice Up Your Life Singing in a group or playing an instrument in a band is a fantastic way to meet new friends and have fun together. If you can’t play an instrument or don’t already sing in a group that doesn’t mean you can’t start. Why not give it a go? The list of skills you’ll develop if you learn an instrument or get into singing is huge. They improve fine and large motor skills and build brain and body co-ordination. If that wasn’t enough they also help with expression, listening, patience, focus, teamwork, breath control, confidence and resilience. Incredible, eh? These are all skills you can use in other parts of your life too.
Play My Music See if your school offers any instrumental lessons or ask your parents or carers to ask around at church to see if anyone can help you find a teacher. Many schools also have choirs that you can join. If yours doesn’t, talk to your teacher about starting one. Church is also somewhere that many people love to make music. Whether it’s an organ, band, choir or piano, there’s probably some musical options you can explore. Another great idea if you’re not sure what instrument might be good for you is visiting a music shop. Ask your parent or carer to look online to see if there’s one near you. You can look at the different instruments, get advice and enquire about teachers in the area.
Express Yourself Obviously learning to play a musical instrument can be expensive, but there are ways to save money. Many people sell old instruments online and there are lots of YouTube tutorials to watch and singing in front of your mirror is completely free! So no matter what your situation, music can still be marvellous!
If you want to listen to some cool new tunes from The Salvation Army’s Music and Creative Arts team, remember to check out Right Tracks at salvationist.org.uk/right-tracks

Party Time! Even when Covid restrictions were lifted the JAM Club members at Plymouth Congress Hall Salvation Army were still unable to meet regularly because the hall wasn’t fit to use. Their children’s leader, Andrew, kept in contact with them all, delivering Kids Alive! and other activities to keep in contact. And where possible the children met in person during school holidays, often for ice cream! Finally on Friday 3 March the kids were able to meet for the first time in the new hall for a Back Together Party! There were party games to play and party food to enjoy. The children went home very excited that regular weekly activities can now continue – hooray!
