There’s a spectacle of sport happening at Selhurst Park tomorrow (5 March) – it’s the FA Women’s League Cup Final. Worldclass footballers from Arsenal and Chelsea will battle it out in front of an excited crowd. The game kicks off at 3pm and there will be plenty of incredible players to see. England’s Euro 2022-winning captain Leah Williamson will be playing for the Gunners alongside Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius, while Australia’s superstar Sam Kerr will line up alongside Canada’s Kadeisha Buchanan for the Blues.

After smashing seven goals past West Ham in the semi- nal, Chelsea’s players will be feeling con dent. The Blues also currently sit second in the Women’s Super League – just one point behind the leaders – while Arsenal are fourth. That should make Chelsea favourites to win this cup. However, league form doesn’t always count when it comes to cup games and Arsenal’s women have won a record ve League Cup Finals. So it’s all to play for – game on!

I remember watching a football match with my daughters when one of them said, ‘Football’s not for girls, Daddy! Football’s just for boys!’ So we had a chat about how anyone can play football and that there are loads of girls and women who are fantastic footballers.

I really don’t like that my daughters think there are things they can’t do, just because they’re female. In fact, I really don’t like the idea that anyone thinks there are things they can’t do based on their gender. As my daughters grow up, I’m looking forward to encouraging them to do anything they set their hearts and minds on, and celebrating all the things they can do.

So, whatever you dream of doing, go for it! Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something just because you’re a girl or a boy. Now, I’m off to watch the Women’s League Cup Final with my daughters.

Temptation is wanting to do something unwise or wrong. The devil tempted Jesus three times by trying to stop him from obeying or worshipping God. Each time Jesus fought back by speaking

I Am… An Ambassador

J esus has called you to be his ambassador (2 Corinthians 5:20) and he’s trusting you to be a good example of God’s Kingdom to the people around you. Like a real ambassador, you have the power to speak and act on God’s behalf.

The power comes from the Holy Spirit who helps you, day by day, to produce the types of behaviour that show you’re a part of God’s Kingdom. These include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23).

So, when others see your good example, they’ll understand who Jesus is and what it means to be his friend.

The Sun is around 148 million kilometres away from the Earth. That’s just as well because the Sun’s surface is very hot. Its core – the hottest part – is a sizzling 15 million degrees Celsius! Our Sun is about 100 times wider than the Earth, but it’s only an average-sized star. Astronomers have found some stars that are 100 times bigger than the Sun!

YOU’RE WONDERFUL! CARD

In this week’s KA! World we’re celebrating all the wonderful women in the world (check out pages 12 and 13). So we thought you might like to make a card to give to a wonderful someone you know. Also, Sunday 19 March is Mother’s Day, so why not plan ahead and make this card to give to a special lady in your life?

What You Need

The design on the right or a print of the design on the right. A piece of A5 card (or cut a piece of A4 card in half). Scissors. Paints, pens, pencils and crayons for colouring in. Bright and colourful stuff to cut out and stick on to make a collage. Glue. A grown-up to help. Your imagination.

What To Do

1 Cut out the ‘You’re Wonderful!’ design and stick it on to a piece of A5 card or print it on to a piece of card and cut it out.

2 Use paints, pens, pencils and crayons to colour in and add to the design. Or cut out some bright and colourful shiny stuff and stick it on to make a collage.

3 Fold the card in half.

4 Write a message to someone you think is wonderful inside the card and give it to them.

Wonderful Women of the World International Women’s Day

Get ready for a female-fuelled March, because International Women’s Day is taking place on Wednesday 8 March and the month of March is Women’s History Month.

International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate all the women in our lives. It’s also about celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness about gender discrimination (that’s when someone is treated unfairly because of their gender or sex) and ghting for a world where everyone is equal. We can all play a part in creating an inclusive world. Here are some ways you can make a difference.

Challenge discrimination! If you hear someone say something like, ‘Girls can’t play football’, stand up and say, ‘That’s not true!’

Include everyone when you’re playing or working.

Make a poster to put up at school or church that highlights the importance of International Women’s Day.

Fundraise for female-focused charities, such as the World Association of Girl Guides and Scouts.

Follow your dreams and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do something because of your gender or sex.

Show the women in your life how much you love and appreciate them! Make them a card (see page 11), give them a hug, tell them what you love most about them or whatever else you can think of to make their day special!

Women’s History Month

How much do you know about some of the world’s most incredible women? There’s no better time to learn more about female world changers. Here are some that we think are amazing.

Mary Seacole

Mary was born in Jamaica, but when war broke out in Crimea in 1853, she travelled to England to volunteer her services. Unfortunately, when Mary applied to help in the hospital she was rejected because of her race. That rejection didn’t stop Mary, though! She travelled to Crimea and built her own hospital!

Amelia Earhart

Amelia was a courageous pilot who broke records in the air. At the time Amelia was bossing the skies not many women ew planes. During her life, Amelia completed some amazing challenges, including being the rst woman to y solo across the Atlantic Ocean!

Pankhurst Helen Keller

Believe it or not, there was a time when women weren’t allowed to vote in elections. This isn’t the case anymore, and it’s thanks to a group of women called the Suffragettes. One of the most famous Suffragette is Emmeline Pankhurst. Emmeline was arrested several times for speaking up for women’s rights, but nothing stopped her ghting.

Helen was deaf and blind, but didn’t let her disabilities de ne what she was capable of. She was an author and an Oscar recipient! She knew ve different languages, wrote many books and campaigned for the rights of disabled people –this included changing the law in America so that braille books were available in libraries. She even set up the American Civil Liberties Union, which still protects workers’ rights today.

Malala Yousafzai

When Malala was growing up in Pakistan she wasn’t allowed to go to school because supporters of the Taliban group believed that women shouldn’t receive an education. Malala didn’t think that was right and she openly spoke about her feelings, even though it put her in danger. When Malala was 15 she was shot by a Taliban supporter and was own to the UK for treatment. It was too dangerous for Malala to return to Pakistan, but she has continued to campaign for the rights of girls. She even received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 when she was just 17!

There are so many more inspiring women to learn about –Harriet Tubman, Frida Kahlo, Florence Nightingale, Rosa Parks, Marie Curie and Mother Teresa are just some of the others we could have told you about. Look online, head to your local library or talk to your teachers about more wonderful women who did incredible things. We hope they inspire you to do great things too!

A Ukrainian Christmas

More than 140 people gathered at Ramsgate Salvation Army on Saturday 7 January. This was for a celebration on the traditional date for Christmas in Ukraine. The celebration included songs, carols and poetry performed by children from the local Ukrainian community. There was also a spread of delicious Ukrainian food and many people wore traditional Ukrainian embroidered clothing.

The Ukrainian group meets regularly at Ramsgate Salvation Army for English lessons and family sessions.

These pukka penguins were coloured in fantastically well by Dorothea, age 7. Our favourite thing is how many different colours you’ve used.

Arthur, age 5, had a great time colouring this Street Dancer Colouring. He loves his street dance lessons and showed his mum the move the dancer in the picture is doing. Well done, Arthur. We especially love the disco ball you’ve added!

Ania, age 9, sent in this Brilliant Bicycle Colouring and it’s amazing! The colouring is so neat and it really makes us look forward to a bike ride on a warm, sunny day.
