A MAN AND HIS CORNET I am a soldier in The Salvation Army. This means I am a member - I have made a promise to accept the Christian faith and live a Christian lifestyle. My Salvation Army church has a brass band which helps with the worship. I play the cornet in the band.

A WOMAN SITTING ON A BUCKET I am a Salvation Army officer. Like a minister or priest, I lead the church services on a Sunday. I also care for people in my community. Every year The Salvation Army holds an appeal. Money is collected for people in need. We sometimes use buckets like the one I am sitting on.
…a fireman?
A FIREMAN I was helped by The Salvation Army when I was involved in a major fire. At times of emergency, they give out food and drink for victims, the fire fighters, the police and the ambulance service. They are also there to comfort people and to listen if people need to talk about how they feel.

A MAN SLEEPING ON THE STREET When I was alone on the streets The Salvation Army helped me. They found me a place to stay and gave me some food and clothes. Thanks to The Salvation Army, I am now living in my own flat and making new friends.

A CHILD LEANING ON THE BIBLE Me and my friends are members of The Salvation Army’s junior church. I am in the children’s choir and I go to the kids’ club which is held at the same time as Sunday morning worship. We find out more about the Bible and how to be like Jesus.

AN ELDERLY WOMAN HANGING FROM A ZIMMER FRAME During the week I come and have lunch at The Salvation Army. I also attend a friendship club every week. A kind gentleman from my local Salvation Army picks me up in the Salvation Army van. It’s nice to know that people care about me.

A WOMAN PUSHING A MOUSE I work for The Salvation Army in their main office in London. I work in the Family Tracing Service. We help to find family members who have gone missing or can’t be found. We reunite thousands of families every year!

A WOMAN HOLDING UP A COPY OF ‘THE WAR CRY’ ‘The War Cry’ is The Salvation Army’s weekly Christian newspaper that we sell in the streets or in pubs. We also sell a children’s comic called ‘Kids Alive!’. The money helps with The Salvation Army’s work.

A LITTLE GIRL HOLDING HER TEDDY BEAR’S HAND I go to a parent-and-toddler group with my mummy at The Salvation Army. There are lots of toys, paints and other things to make and do. I play with my friends while mummy chats with her friends.

A TEENAGER HOLDING A GLOBE The globe I am holding shows where The Salvation Army can be found in over 100 countries in the world. In other parts of the world The Salvation Army runs clinics, hospitals and schools, as well as homes for the elderly, for children and for blind and disabled people. We have lots of other projects to try to help people to help themselves out of poverty.

A ELDERLY MAN DIVING INTO A SOUP BOWL As I live on my own now and I’m not used to cooking for myself, I enjoy going to The Salvation Army for some good food. I enjoy chatting with my friends who come here. The people at The Salvation Army are like my family!
