What is Christmas? Christmas tree, Santa Clause, Christmas lights and decors, special dinner, giving of gifts are all traditional expressions of Christmas to many today. Yet, the spirit of Christmas as we know is more than all of these. It is found in the life of our Saviour, Jesus Christ. His teachings and works make Christmas alive and real to us. He is the reason for the season.

the light of the star to the manger of Bethlehem. “-Joseph R. Sizoo If we desire to find the true spirit of Christmas let us find time to turn our hearts to God, in our quiet time, in our quiet place and even on our knees whether alone or with our loved ones. May we find the words to thank Him for all the good things that have come our way. May we ask that His Spirit dwell in us, for Christmas is not a day or a season, but a condition of is not a our hearts.

Our Saviour’s birth is not just His coming to earth. It is about Him coming Christmas into our hearts. To be day or a season, To our beloved staff and born in us. It is to your experience a life formed but a condition of v o l u n t e e r s , dedication, commitment, in Him and by Him. This our hearts. and continuing support to life makes Him real and our mission made it not just an idea. Not just possible to provide and meet a vast a truth or a fact which happened in need in our community. Through history. He becomes our living you, many lives were transformed experience of a God who is with us. because of your hard work. "The virgin will be with child and will

give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"--which means, "God with us." Matthew 1:23 This is why the Christmas story has its amazing relevance up to now. “It

is at home in every age and fits into every mood of life. It is not simply a lovely tale once told, but eternally contemporary. It is the voice crying out in every wilderness. It is as meaningful in our time as in that long -ago night when shepherds followed

To our donors who generously give beyond our expectations and whose generosity we can never repay nor return, may our gracious Lord bless you abundantly and beyond measure. May you always remember us as the Lord brings His good favour to you. May this season fill you with God’s presence. Merry Christmas to you all and a prosperous New Year!

WW1 Ministry . . .

Fashion Hound, Faye De Lanty, talks ECO Fashion

It was during the First World War that The Salvation Army became recognised for the ministry of its chaplains, tending to the physical and spiritual needs of diggers wherever they were. One example was the chaplain to the First Infantry Brigade, “Fighting Mac” McKenzie, who went ashore with the troops at Gallipoli. In one three-day period, Fighting Mac conducted 647 funerals and after one funeral service he found three bulletholes in his hat. He was later awarded a Military Cross for his work, an honour virtually unheard of for a military chaplain. The Salvation Army was involved supporting the troops in every theatre of that terrible conflict. At Le Havre, in France, the famous “Hop In” sign made its first appearance, accompanied by the Red Shield symbol of service. The Hop In centres offered soldiers a cup of tea and a bit of advice or encouragement if they needed it. Major William McKenzie

Did you know it takes over 2000 litres of water to make one new white t-shirt? That’s enough water for one person to drink for 900 days! This was only one shocking fact Salvos Stores ambassador and eco fashion warrior, Fashion Hound, Faye De Lanty, revealed at an eco fashion workshop with our store managers. Sharing her experience with eco fashion, Faye demonstrated her Fashion Hound style. Pairing vintage with modern, classic with grunge and some serious bling with a flannelette shirt. Our managers enjoyed the experience of going outside the box when it comes to fashion. Pre loved clothing plays an important roll in reducing land fill across Australia. Be unique and shop pre loved.

We are often asked "what type of donations we need"?

FACEBOOK

In simple terms we need quality donations. We use the terminology; "if it's too good to throw away and, you would still use it but, it's no longer needed by you, please give it to the Salvos".

There are many reasons for this being the case and they are probably not those which some may suspect. Possibly, I need to state that the first thing that happens when a product is donated to us, is that when there is need for those particular items, they are offered free to persons presenting themselves to our Community Service Offices in various locations.

What remains, we sell for the provision of funding to the wider Mission of The Salvation Army. I cite to you the case of a family assisted by us at our Minchinbury Store, as a consequence of the terrible 2013 bushfires in The Blue Mountains. At our Red Shield Appeal launch in Sydney City on 1 May 2014, we heard the heartfelt and tragic story of how these fires affected a family and, the resultant devastation caused by this catastrophe. The assistance provided was so much appreciated and, it was wonderful for our Staff to see and hear first hand how our good works benefitted this family in great need. There is not a common "thread" to people in need. They are from all walks of life and, from different socio-economic backgrounds. But, they all are in desperate need of help. We know that because someone is in need, doesn't mean that they don't have, or shouldn't be treated with dignity. We are certain that everyone reading our newsletter would appreciate and applaud our position on this. May I take this opportunity to thank our wonderful Donors for their kindness, who selflessly provide such fabulous items for our Mission and Ministry. We could not provide our vital services and tangible assistance without your generosity, consideration and support.
