14 SALYSÉ AUGUST 2017

Meet Model Yesenia Rubi Garza Hometown: Mankato, Minnesota. How did you get started modeling? Tell us about yourself. I had an interest in modeling since a very young age. I begged my mother to get me into an agency but it never really happened. As I got older I had a really good friend who is a photographer and I was practically his muse. I didn’t truly get into the industry until last year when I was living in Thailand. I was looking to make an extra buck and a friend told me about an agency that was always looking for new talent. A short time after, my agent in Bangkok called me with a commercial gig for Honda and Samsung. When I returned home to Minnesota I immediately searched for my current agent and have been modeling professionally since last summer. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Goofy, adventurous, free What do you enjoy the most about modeling? Modeling has helped me come out of my bubble and be comfortable with who I am. I’m my worst critic and with every shoot I’ve learned to stop picking out my flaws and start accepting and appreciating the image that God gave me. What do you not enjoy about modeling? You tend to meet a handful of superficial people in the industry and those are totally not my crew, so I would say that’s what I dislike the most. These people also give a bad wrap to other models in the industry who do this job for other purposes besides self absorption. I also don’t like telling people that I model because they look at me like I’m self absorbed LOL!

Favorite color? Currently, it’s green. I tend to change every year haha! Favorite food? Mexican food! Afterall, I am Mexican! What designer would you love to model/walk for? Why? Chanel because the designs are stunning and classic. What photographer would you love to shoot with? Why? Horst Diekgerdes because I love his way of storytelling with mysterious fairytale-like scenes that have a dark side Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself modeling for bigger names in the industry and I also see myself well into an acting career Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? The Maldives! It seriously looks like heaven on earth. Your zodiac sign? LEO – Rarrrr! Favorite superhero? Why? Wonderwoman – nough said! What person, living or dead, do you admire the most? Why? Jane Goodall, she seems like a wonderfully caring, gentle person and I envy her work in the world. What’s your favorite quote? “If you’re going through hell, keep going.“ –Winston Churchill What’s your theme song? Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve What is your favorite body part? Back

What do you do when you are not modeling? I’m a multiple income streams type of gal and I love keeping it fresh with a handful of jobs. I run a dog sitting and financial organizing business, as well as run a Social Enterprise called As I Wood. Favorite movie? The Notebook – gets me every time Favorite actor/actress? Keira Knightly Your idea of “happiness” and/or your idea of “misery”? Happiness is appreciating life’s little things and misery is ignoring those little things. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Play the guitar. I got one for Christmas and I can only play a couple of chords. Guilty Pleasure? Pickles, I absolutely love pickles. Last show you binge-watched? Girls! Lena Dunham is a genius. Last book you read? The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell Anything else you want the readers to know about you? It took selling all my possessions and moving to a foreign country with no more than a backpack to realize what true happiness is all about. Meet Model Cianneh Browne Hometown: Monrovia, Liberia, but resides in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Favorite food? Cassava leaf (Liberian’s dish)

How did you get started modeling? Tell us about yourself. My sister introduced me to modeling when I was in high school, but I was too shy. After my life changing accident I decided to give modeling a try. At first, I didn’t how to start, so I did my research and found photographers, stylists and makeup artists in Minnesota. I did my first shoot and from there I started building my portfolio.

What designer would you love to model/walk for? Chanel

Three adjectives to describe yourself. Ambitious, brave, and kind What do you enjoy the most about modeling? I enjoy bringing the designers, stylists, photographers, makeup artists and stylists work to life. I think modeling and fashion is art. After all, a design begins in someone’s mind, so being able to bring what the team envisioned to life is very rewarding. What do you not enjoy about modeling? The world of modeling and entertainment makes us think we are competing with one another. Also being a model of color I have to work harder because there are lesser opportunities for black models. Favorite color? Yellow

What’s your favorite quote? “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson

Anything else you want the readers to know about you? I’ve walked in 2 seasons of New York Fashion Week. I was humbled to have walked for supermodel turned designer Madeline Stuart and had my face on CNN from the documentary.
