Meet Photographer Alexis Zernescu Hometown: Bucharest, Romania How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. At the age of 30 I’ve decided to reinvent myself and put all my knowledge and passion into practice and become an entrepreneur. I’ve already had a communication and a photographic background, a professional camera, a few lenses and a great motivation to succeed. I’ve started photographing friends, friends’ colleagues and then clients begin to show up. I’ve never settled for the knowledge I’ve already acquired, I always try to learn more and improve through reading and masterclasses. In fact, in this business, if you do not stay informed about new trends and technologies, you will become uninteresting and will be left behind. I am specialized in photographing women mostly and I love to shoot fashion, portraits and boudoir sessions. I love the human body, the expressivity and attitude that it communicates through photographs. For me, it is very important the relationship I build with the people I come in contact with: collaborators, models and particularly clients, that’s why I try to offer them a special and pleasant experience each time we meet for a shoot. Through the years, I have gathered a very solid team of creatives with whom I do almost all of my photo sessions and which helps me put my fearless ideas into practice. Three adjectives to describe yourself. I define myself as empathic, perfectionist and open-minded, traits that help me understand better others and deal with new challenges of the everyday life.
What do you enjoy the most about photography? Working with different personalities and making women regain trust in their natural beauty and imperfect, but sexy bodies. What do you not enjoy about photography? The many pounds of equipment that we have to carry with us when we go to various important photo sessions. Favorite color? Each season a like a different color, this summer I’m in love with magenta. Favorite food/drink? Watermelon at every hour of the day, in every combination. What person, living or dead, would you love to photograph? Tom Ford, who is the symbol of absolute masculinity, attitude and style and also a great photographer. What country would you love to shoot in? On my must do list, it’s not a country, but a place I would love to shoot in – a lavender field. What is your idea of perfect happiness? Travel around the world and making money of it. Your zodiac sign? It’s the sign that loves people and freedom – Aquarius. What’s your favorite quote? “Don’t compare yourself to others, compare yourself to the person of yesterday.”
Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? A cruise ship in the tropical islands is what I would call a dream holiday. If you had the opportunity to meet any photographer, living or dead, who would it be? I would love to meet and watch Annie Leibovitz working, because she is a legend in the field, that knows how to manage difficult celebrities and make art, creating beautiful and engaging stories in her photographs. Favorite movie? Inception – a fascinating movie about human mind with amazing special effects. What was the last picture you took with your phone? Before leaving the hotel in Kavala, Greece, I’ve took one last panorama of the city, that was just waking up. It was the last day of our adventurous summer vacation. Last book you read? The Nature of Emotion – Fundamental Questions by Paul Ekman Anything else you want the readers to know about you. My team and I are preparing a new fashion project based on the Fifty Shades series. It will be all about sensuality and passion behind closed doors… Website www.zalexisphoto.com/ Follow Alexis on Social Media IG: @@zalexis_photo Pinterest: https://ro.pinterest.com/ 17 zalexisphoto/ SALYSÉ AUGUST 2017

Meet Model Yesenia Rubi Garza Hometown: Mankato, Minnesota. How did you get started modeling? Tell us about yourself. I had an interest in modeling since a very young age. I begged my mother to get me into an agency but it never really happened. As I got older I had a really good friend who is a photographer and I was practically his muse. I didn’t truly get into the industry until last year when I was living in Thailand. I was looking to make an extra buck and a friend told me about an agency that was always looking for new talent. A short time after, my agent in Bangkok called me with a commercial gig for Honda and Samsung. When I returned home to Minnesota I immediately searched for my current agent and have been modeling professionally since last summer. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Goofy, adventurous, free What do you enjoy the most about modeling? Modeling has helped me come out of my bubble and be comfortable with who I am. I’m my worst critic and with every shoot I’ve learned to stop picking out my flaws and start accepting and appreciating the image that God gave me. What do you not enjoy about modeling? You tend to meet a handful of superficial people in the industry and those are totally not my crew, so I would say that’s what I dislike the most. These people also give a bad wrap to other models in the industry who do this job for other purposes besides self absorption. I also don’t like telling people that I model because they look at me like I’m self absorbed LOL!
Favorite color? Currently, it’s green. I tend to change every year haha! Favorite food? Mexican food! Afterall, I am Mexican! What designer would you love to model/walk for? Why? Chanel because the designs are stunning and classic. What photographer would you love to shoot with? Why? Horst Diekgerdes because I love his way of storytelling with mysterious fairytale-like scenes that have a dark side Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself modeling for bigger names in the industry and I also see myself well into an acting career Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? The Maldives! It seriously looks like heaven on earth. Your zodiac sign? LEO – Rarrrr! Favorite superhero? Why? Wonderwoman – nough said! What person, living or dead, do you admire the most? Why? Jane Goodall, she seems like a wonderfully caring, gentle person and I envy her work in the world. What’s your favorite quote? “If you’re going through hell, keep going.“ –Winston Churchill What’s your theme song? Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve What is your favorite body part? Back
What do you do when you are not modeling? I’m a multiple income streams type of gal and I love keeping it fresh with a handful of jobs. I run a dog sitting and financial organizing business, as well as run a Social Enterprise called As I Wood. Favorite movie? The Notebook – gets me every time Favorite actor/actress? Keira Knightly Your idea of “happiness” and/or your idea of “misery”? Happiness is appreciating life’s little things and misery is ignoring those little things. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be? Play the guitar. I got one for Christmas and I can only play a couple of chords. Guilty Pleasure? Pickles, I absolutely love pickles. Last show you binge-watched? Girls! Lena Dunham is a genius. Last book you read? The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell Anything else you want the readers to know about you? It took selling all my possessions and moving to a foreign country with no more than a backpack to realize what true happiness is all about. How did you get started modeling? Tell us about yourself. My sister introduced me to modeling when I was in high school, but I was too shy. What designer would you love to model/walk for? Chanel
Three adjectives to describe yourself. Ambitious, brave, and kind What do you enjoy the most about modeling? After all, a design begins in someone’s mind, so being able to bring what the team envisioned to life is very rewarding. What do you not enjoy about modeling? The world of modeling and entertainment makes us think we are competing with one another. Also being a model of color I have to work harder because there are lesser opportunities for black models. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson

The Pearl Hotel is where savvy, budget-minded travelers stay for quality, value and warm hospitality near downtown San Diego and Shelter Island. We are an authentic, intimate, hip and cool, small boutique hotel close to San Diego International Airport, near the Gaslamp Quarter and local tourist attractions. Meet Hair Stylist Kanika Styles How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. Hair has always been a passion of mine. It’s been an interest since I was a small child. Any time anyone would let me play in their hair, I took advantage of the opportunity. I took a little detour from my dream and obtained a BS in Chemistry, and worked in the Biopharmaceutical industry. I found myself unfulfilled and realized that I had been running from my passion. As soon as my schedule and finances permitted, I attended cosmetology school at Paul Mitchell the School and have been doing what I love ever since! Three adjectives to describe yourself. Creative and free-spirited Quiet Goofy – in a good way Hair Artist or Hair Stylist? Why? I can appreciate both of these titles. They’re interchangeable, in my opinion. What do you enjoy the most about being a Hair Artist/ Stylist? I had a client cry in my chair and tell me that I made her feel beautiful, and that she hadn’t felt that way in a very long time. I love being able to make someone feel good about themselves. I equally love being challenged to create the unconventional. There’s nothing like taking a blank canvas and constructing art. What do you not enjoy about being a Hair Artist/Stylist? Right now, only that I’m not able to do it full time. Because it is my passion, I love doing it; however.
Your zodiac sign? Pisces What zodiac sign do you get along with the most? I’m a Pisces…we get along with everyone! Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? There are so many places on my list to visit. So hard to choose one!! But I would love to go to the Maldives and stay in one of the underwater hotels. What hair trend do you love? I love the resurgence of the incorporation of braids in hairstyles. What’s the best/worst gift you’ve ever given/received? I think the best gifts I’ve given were for Christmas a few years ago. I dabble in jewelry making, and my aunt gave me a bunch of my late grandmother’s jewelry that she came across while cleaning out her old bedroom. I made jewelry for everyone for Christmas, incorporating pieces from my grandmother’s old jewelry, so that everyone would have a piece of her with them when they wear it. Favorite movie? Coming to America Favorite actor/actress? Don Cheadle Last show you binge-watched? Sneaky Pete and Game of Thrones. I’m finally caught up! I CANNOT wait for the next season!
Favorite color? Green/teal Favorite food/drink? Pizza Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years, I will be freelancing bicoastal, with a business based in the Washington, DC area. What is your idea of perfect happiness? Freedom to do what I please, when and where I please, and being surrounded by people I love. 360 SALYSÉ AUGUST 2017
