SALYSÉ Magazine is a photography magazine, featuring beauty, fashion, and conceptual art editorials. We do not seek to define beauty with one narrow idea, but with myriad viewpoints Vintage is right next to emerging designers, who are right next to established designers. We are looking for creatives who push the envelope, take chances, and disregard the status quo. Letter from the Editor Dear Salysians, What a year? We made it! We survived! Sixty Issues!! 60! Did you read all of them? Are you ready to begin a new year- a new chapter? What will the new year and the new volumes of SALYSÉ hold? As I drink my Honest Tea while putting the final touches on the largest issue that we have ever published, I peeled off the label to read: “Everything has beauty, but not everyone see it.” - Confucius Beauty? What is it? Who determines it? How does each person define it? Those are the questions that I continue to try to answer with every issue. And I hope to continue to answer with the new year. I am so thankful for today! I’m thankful for all of the amazing contributors who have entrusted me with their work and to show their BEAUTY to the world! What are you thankful for? Enjoy the “gifts” of the season! And know the most precious gift you can give someone is the gift of time! Enjoy the December issue! As always, I hope you enjoy your escape! Hugs and Love, Sonya Alyse Lawyer SALYSÉ, Founder and Editor in Chief

Meet Model Jada Her

Hometown Sacramento, California How did you get started modeling? Tell us about yourself. When I was 13, I signed with my first agency in San Francisco, California. In the beginning of my career, I mostly focused on print modeling because I was so young. When I turned 15, I decided to start doing runway work and from there I fell in love with modeling. Now I am 18, in my first year of college, and I am currently a freelance model. What do you enjoy the most about modeling? I really enjoy being on set for shoots and shows, the adrenaline that I get from them really pumps me up to make the shoot fun. I also love the outcome of the all the hard work that is put into the shoot. Modeling has also given me the opportunity to meet new models and make new friends. This industry has a ton of talented and amazing people and I am honored to meet them. Favorite color? Blue! Favorite food? I love all types of food! I can eat anything and everything! What designer would you love to model/walk for? Why? I would really love to walk for Virgil Abloh, the creator of Off White. His style is something that I really love because I could see myself wearing it. Not only is his clothes seen as high fashion, but he also incorporates some urban/ cozy styles with his brand and I really like that. If I ever get the opportunity to walk for him I would be so happy. What photographer would you love to shoot with? Why? Any photographer that wants to work with me because I always want to work with new photographers and try new styles in every photo shoot.

Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? Hopefully in 5 years, I will have graduated college and have my own business that is doing well. I also think in 5 years I would still be modeling so I hope my modeling has taken off by that point in my life. Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? I would love to travel across Europe because I want to take in all the beautiful scenery and eat all the food that they have. I really just think Europe has so much history as well and it would be nice to see all the places that I’ve learned about or have read about in books. Your zodiac sign? Gemini What person, living or dead, do you admire the most? Why? My mom is the person I admire the most. I wouldn’t be the model I am today without all the hard work she put into boosting my career. She took me to every audition, shoot, and show no matter how far we had to go. Without my mom’s crazy 110% effort I would not be where I am today. What is your favorite body part? My legs because they are long and are probably the first part of my body that people look at the most. What do you do when you are not modeling? I am a freshman in college so when I’m not modeling I am going to school. Last show you binge-watched? Meet Photographer Joelle Andrea Hometown San Francisco Bay area How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. My dad gave me my first camera in high school and I fell in love with photography straight away. But it took a while for me to turn my passion into my profession. I had traveled and lived in Europe, then spent several years as a graphic designer and publisher. A few years ago, my life took another turn - I moved back to the Bay Area and decided to return to my first love, photography. I now focus on beauty, portraiture and fashion. Three adjectives to describe yourself. Kind – kindness is the foundation of everything good in life. Sensitive – I love working with people, trying to capture the essence of their personalities. Resilient – as the saying goes, it’s how you get up after falling down that counts most. What do you enjoy the most about photography? I love capturing moments and then looking back at these moments I have captured. I also enjoy connecting with other creative talent and seeing the combination of skills and vision all come together. What do you not enjoy about photography? Not being in the moment when you are trying to capture the moment.

Your zodiac sign? Scorpio. Faithful, brave and focused (most of the time)! What’s your favorite quote? “A smooth sea never made a skillful sailor” - Franklin D. Roosevelt Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? The Amalfi Coast in Italy is my favorite place in the world. I vacationed there and then ended up staying for a few years because I loved it so much. Portugal and Buenos Aires are two places I would love to see next. What’s your theme song? “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” by the Rolling Stones. If you had the opportunity to meet any photographer, living or dead, who would it be? Irving Penn Favorite movie? Amélie by the French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Favorite superhero? Why? I like Jessica Jones. She has super-strength and endurance, but mostly she is just a very smart woman. What is your favorite word? Least favorite? Can. Can’t.

Favorite color? Champagne pink

What was the last picture you took with your phone? My son holding up a Lego he wants me to add to his Christmas wish list.

Favorite food/drink? I have several favorites, but perhaps my most favorite of all is “spaghetti alle vongole” paired with a chilled spumante.

If you could have personally witnessed anything, what would you want to have seen? Rosa Parks on the bus on December 1, 1955.

What person, living or dead, would you love to photograph? I never had the opportunity to take a portrait of my much-loved but sadly departed grandparents. I would have loved to capture an image of them the way that I remember them.

Guilty Pleasure? Magazine newsstands. I find the differences in artistic vision and culture around the world as represented by magazines endlessly fascinating.

What country would you love to shoot in? I can’t name just one, I love to travel too much. Can I say that I would love to shoot portraits in every country around the world? What is your idea of perfect happiness? Simply enjoying life with the people I care about. Or creating more art, enjoying a good meal, the sound of waves...I don’t know? Being healthy, laughing. Love and loving to live.

Last book you read? Some how-to book, of which I am unable to remember the title. Clearly the lesson stuck! Anything else you want the readers to know about you.
