aul Renner was born on August 9, 1887 in Germany. Renner studied the arts at several different academies. He invested his creative talent in the applied arts by designing books and typefaces. Additionally, his Geman upbringing lead him to become a member of the work federation, which assisted his training in typography. He was close friends with fellow German type designer, Jan Tschichold. The typefaces Renner created are described as a bridge between the traditional and modern.

Renner also supported the Bauhaus principles and ideals. The two major texts he wrote are Typography as Art and The Art of Typography In these works, he set the guidelines for sophisticated book designs. He aspired to communicate his opinion of it through his writing, teaching and designing. Renner died on April 25, 1956, yet his type work lives on within the design world.

Fun Fact : The film director, Stanley Kubrick, states that Futura is his favorite typeface. The music industry also uses Futura within its album covers like Vampire Weekend. Futura remains an important typeface family and is used on a daily basis for a variety of projects.
