Bisexuality Day This day is a call for the bisexual community, their friends, and supporters to recognize and celebrate bisexuality, bisexual history, bisexual community and culture, and all the bisexual people in their lives.

Lambda & Student Athlete Community Discussion Group Annenberg G31, 2120 Campus Drive | 5pm The Lambda affinity group is for Greek and student athlete members of the Northwestern community who identify as LGBTQ. This affinity space will take place regularly throughout the fall quarter.

National Coming Out Day National Coming Out Day (NCOD) is an annual civil awareness day internationally observed on October 11th to recognize members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Kai Green “It Gets Messy In Here” Documentary Screening & Discussion Black House, 1914 Sheridan Road | 6-8pm Join Professor Kai Green for a screening and discussion of “It Gets Messy in Here,” a 32-minute short film that examines the lives of transgender men and masculine identified women of color and their bathroom experiences.

“Suffragette” Advance Movie Screening with the Women’s Center Cinemark Evanston, 1715 Maple Avenue | 7- 9pm Join the Women’s Center for an advance screening of “Suffragette”, a film centering on early members of the British women’s suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th century. Tickets will not be provided in advance.

Queer and Trans* Empowerment Month Speaker: Janet Mock Cahn Auditorium, 600 Emerson Street | 6:30-8pm Join us for an evening with speaker Janet Mock. Janet Mock is an American writer, transgender rights activist, author and the former staff editor of People magazine’s website. Her most recent work is “Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More”. The event will be followed by a book signing. The event is free to students, staff, faculty, and the public. Advance tickets available at the Norris University Center Box Office.

Fraternity and Sorority Life LGBT 101 Parkes Hall 122, 1870 Sheridan Road | 6-7:30pm Fraternity and sorority members will define LGBT+, perform a selfassessment of the climate of their individual chapters, and discuss the evolving inter/national policies regarding the inclusion of the Trans* community into fraternities/sororities.
Cock (Jewish Assemble) followed by Talk Back Shanley Pavilion, 2031 Sheridan Road | 8-10pm Join the Jewish Theater Ensemble for their opening night production of “Cock”, a provocative theater production focusing on gender and sexuality. A Talk Back discussion will take place afterwards featuring faculty, students, and staff.

Spoken Word Artists Dark Matter Student Workshop: Black House, 1914 Sheridan Road | 4-6pm Performance Show: Parkes Hall 122, 1870 Sheridan Road | 7-9pm Dark Matter is an art and activist collaboration between Janani Balasubramanian and Alok Vaid-Menon, known for their spoken word performances and queer/trans South Asian themes. Join them for their workshop in the afternoon, and Performance later in the evening.

Gender and Sexuality Studies Cora Kaplan Lecture Harris Hall 108, 633 Clark Street | 5pm Cora Kaplan is visiting professor in the School of English and Drama at Queen Mary, University of London, and emerita professor of English at the University of Southampton. A feminist cultural critic with a focus on class and gender from the 19th century forward. She is currently working on two book length projects: one on the representation of class and race under New Labour, The Death of the Working-Class Hero, and the other entitled Giant Propensities: Racial Thinking in Victorian Britian.
“Brother Outsider” Documentary & Discussion Black House, 1914 Sheridan Road | 6-8pm Brother Outsider illuminates the life and work of Bayard Rustin, a visionary activist and strategist who has been called “the unknown hero” of the civil rights movement. A tireless crusader for justice, a disciple of Gandhi, a mentor to Martin Luther King Jr., and the architect of the legendary 1963 March on Washington, Rustin dared to live as an openly gay man during the fiercely homophobic 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Brother Outsider reveals the price that Rustin paid for this openness, chronicling both the triumphs and setbacks of his remarkable 60-year career.
Trans* Day of Remembrance The Rock, 1897 Sheridan Road | 7-8pm Transgender Day of Remembrance is a day to memorialize those who have been killed as a result of transphobia and to bring attention to the continued violence endured by the transgender community. Join us at The Rock for a candlelight vigil.
World AIDS Day World AIDS Day is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease. There will be free HIV testing and counseling throughout the day.

Gender and Sexuality Resource Center The Gender and Sexuality Resource Center works to provide a safe and affirming space for all members of the Northwestern University campus and acts as a hub for organizations, resources, services, and programs of interest to the Queer, Trans*, and Ally community. Our aim is to increase visibility and awareness of issues surrounding gender identity/expression and sexual orientation by uniting existing community entities and developing our own educational and outreach-oriented programming.
Mission Statement The mission of the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center is to take an intercultural and social justice approach to providing opportunities that create engaging, enriching and educational experiences for students from diverse gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation backgrounds at Northwestern University.
