HEART In Centrale

//Breathing is one of the most essensial and important funcions of our bodies and is very strongly connected to our pulse.

IT IS LIFE. //

Distraction & Breathing AIM: We want to create an installation for the waiting people to raise awareness of the importance of breathing and its advantages to obtain a healthy life.

HEART In Centrale

CONCEPT THE INSTALLATION: There will ballons in the form of a big human heart, taking the shades of the heart’s actual colours (red, blue and pink tones). Just like the heart, our installation will have veins that connects the heart to the people.

HOW IT WORKS:

WITHOUT PEOPLE:

The balloons that makes the heart, are connected to a workstation. The workstation consists of a stand with a soap bubble ring. The people would blow into the ring, which in turn senses the blowing of the user. It sends a signal in the form of light, through the connected veins and into the heart, which then starts to breath.

The heart is darkly lit and beats very fast, as if it is stressed and sick.

Sick Stressed Sad Heart

WITH PEOPLE: The heart lights up and slowers the beating pace. The more people joining in the experience, the healthier the heart becomes.

Healthy Relaxed Happy Heart

REPORT

Breathing

HEART In Centrale

Since the scale of our project is enormous, we decided to create a prototype that will decribe the process of the implementation of our project. The things we needed to create it were: Balloons (that would represent the breathing heart installation in Centrale) Air spray (to make the balloons change volume according to the breathing of the user) LED strips (to make the balloons light up simultaneously in syncronization with the breath. Microphone (to read the sound of breathing) Arduino Tinkerkit Bridge Light Bridge A Motor (to push the button of the air spray)

HOW DID WE MAKE IT:

HOW IT WENT:

WILL IT WORK IN CENTRALE:

The Tinkerkit is connected to the Arduino, so we can control it through our laptop. Plugs are now connected from Arduino to the laptop by USB cables.

At first, things were a bit difficult, because finding a way to fix the motor to the airspray was hard, and sometimes when we connect everything together, the motor/light stopped working, and we tried different things, but we discovered that it only needed an additional power supply.

Yes, of course it would work. But it would need more modifications to execute it in Centrale since it’s a much bigger scale, therefore it needs a more detailed structure of the installation of the balloons, they need to be made in a thicker material, and we will need a big steady base to help us connect the motor to the balloons.

We connected the LED light to Arduino channel 01. This light is situated inside a balloon. We used the bridge to light up more LED strips. The motor is fixed on the airsoray (in order to blow the balloon), and it is connected to channel 00. Once all of them are connected, we now set up the settings in Max.

Right now everything is well-connected and is working the way it should; the air is triggered by the sound of the blowing, as well as the volume of the balloon that’s increasing depending on the breathing sound, along with the LED light.

OUR THOUGHTS: We love it, we enjoyed working on it, because it is something very new and different for us, and we discovered it with the help of our teacher and we were so happy when everything worked in the end.
