The Proposed Hotel Design is located in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Spain and revolves around the Idea of a Balance in contrast. The building itself creates a contrast of Extroverted and Introverted spaces along with the Structure that balances with a contrast of opacity and transparency, using the activation of the streetscape with a plane that is composed of louvers. This creates a transparency that creates a visual connection to the public park on the other side of the hotel. This strategy works to facilitate and extentuate the utility of the public areas surrounding the Ground Floor while also creating a private and secluded oasis for hotel guests to use. The use of this contrast creates the Foreground of the streetscape, a background of the public park, and proposed hotel in The MiddleGround.

Floor Plans of the proposed hotel In the proposed design, The ground floor, first floor, and second floor all have extroverted program as they all are meant to be used by the public. The ground floor contains two reflecting pools as an extention of the bordering park spaces. The 1st floor is made up of lobby space, restaurant space, hotel offices, and a kitchen. The second floor is a mezzanine level made up of dining space and a bar. From the third floor up, as shown in the enlarged typical room plan to the right, the program changes quite drastically to an introverted, serene setting. These floors are made up of primarilly just guest rooms. Through the strategic use of open stacked atrium spaces, each room has a connection to the outside, while retaining their privacy from the public, and the other rooms. In accordance with ADA standards, each stairwell has an appropriate amount of space for refuge areas, and each room has enough space for diverse mobility. The structure of the hotel is a basic grid system of columns, beams, and girders that is completely composed of timber and wood framing. Room floor Typ. +3

The proposed library design is located near Old Town in Chicago, Illinois, and is named Bildungsroman. As a literary term, Bildungsroman refers to personal growth af a character throughout a story. In contemporary society, libraries face an identity crisis. As technology progresses, the modes of communicating information lean farther away from print media and more torward personal interactions and internet research. In the proposed design, less emphasis is put on storage for books and more emphasis is put on program based on supporting personal growth. In

the design of form of the building, emphasis is placed on passage and progression to further communicate a theme of personal growth. The floor plates are generated formally by a progression of radial protractions pulling outward changing the interior views from the streetscape on the ground floor, to the nearby Lake Michigan on the top floor. These radial protractions are staggered by the use of perforated shear walls that serve as the building’s structure and spacial divisions.

On the basement floor, the space is split between a large, public lecture hall and storage/mechanical space. The ground floor is relatively free of program with a double-height atrium space to encourage gathering and reception with clear view of both entrances. The first floor is partly mezzanine over the atrium space as an extension of the ground floor gathering space, and partly library faculty offices. The second floor is made up of a chidren’s area, a public computer lab, and the library’s only book

stack area. The third floor contains three community class rooms. On the fourth and final floor, there is a free use gathering area, personal study areas, large study tables, and secluded group work areas. The building has two emergency stairs on either side of the building, two elevators, and a large architectural stair around a full-height atrium space. Each floor has areas for the staff that borders the stair for storage and work space.

03 Urban Bookstore. Architectural Design in the City. 3 Weeks. University of Illinois UrbanaChampaign. 2015.
Model interior perspective
The proposed design for this urban bookstore in Champaign, Illinois revolves around the utility of parametric horizontal planes that line the interior of the space. These horizontal planes are meant to serve as seating, shelving, work spaces, and the leading aesthetic for the design. The project works to explore the shared utility of function and aesthetic in one conceptual fixture piece. The store is arranged into a split level arrangement that works to extentuate the fluidity of the long and narrow site while giving a visual division that changes the ratio of the space. The basement contains the restrooms and employee storage and work space. The rear ground floor is open use gathering and atrium space. The Front ground floor contains checkout, coffee shop, and street entrance area. The rear 1st mezzanine level contains display space for featured products. The front 1st level has the majority of the bookspace and merchandise. The rear 2nd level serves as a large reading room for patrons who would like to stay and read, and the front second level is available rooftop terrace space.

Durable treated glass The proposed design for the dance performance center in Kickapoo Park, Illinois is designed to reect the history of the site. The site was originally exploited for coal mining, then turned into a state park to embrace the natural beauty of the landscape. The building design is meant to appear as if it is a fossilized structure uncovered through many years of natural erosion then exploited for human use and used to embrace the beaty of the landscape around it.

05 Architecture School Redesign. Architectural Design Studio II. 1 Month. Illinois Central College. 2013.
Model exterior perspective
This design for a new architecture school at Illinois Central College in East Peoria, Illinois was designed in response to concerns with the current architecture school accomodations. The basis of the design was a school that is clear, uid, and easy to navigate with a heirarchy of program and a response to the neigboring pond. The school is made up of a large, curved lobby gathering space, a theater lecture hall, a large studio classroom, computer and printing labs, a woodshop with a shop door to the outside, six classrooms, restrooms and a maintenence room.

06 Tiny Cabin Project. Architectural Design Studio. 1 Month. Illinois Central College. 2012.
Model exterior perspective
This design for a tiny cabin in a secluded, wooded area in central Illinois revolved around the idea of using planes to shape a space. A large plane intersects the structure mid-span and separates the entrance from the living space, and upstairs, it separates the restroom from the bedroom. Simple rules are set up for detaling as the vertical window mullions are uninterrupted wheras the horizontal window framing is interrupted and staggered to replicate the contextual tree structures and extentuate the verticality of the sculptural form in the forest.
