Situation Ile Saint-Denis Two bridges together facilitate activity on both the shores of the main land, and the shores of the island. The two bridges provide a shorter route between the shores and allow people to experience this place in an extensive way.

Cooperation between the ‘theatre bridge’ and the footbridge forms a circuit between the shores of the main land and the island, and provides a variety in spatial experiences in and around the theatre bridge.

The morphology of the cantilever section already shares characteristics with a theatre. This principle has been used as a starting point for the theatre bridge.

Various constructive elements and principles work together to provide a balanced structure. The sequence of the bridge arises from this configuration of elements.

Innumerable ways for people to interact with one another. This clearly displays the role of the theatre bridge as an ‘actor’ in the production of social space.

Interaction between the spectators inside the auditorium and different users of various nearby surroundings outside the theatre.

Interactions between various streams inside and outside, strongly contribute to the ‘social’ theatre within the theatre bridge.

Tea for two

Collapsible tea house London, United Kingdom 2013

Master project 2 ‘Tea for two’ Master architecture, building and planning Technische Universiteit Eindhoven ir. W. Hilhorst ir. J.P.M. Swagten

The small tea house, which offers a place for people to withdraw and meditate, consists of one type of element, originating from one material. This element forms an exterior, an interior, a foundation, a floor, walls, a ceiling and a roof. There is a strong focus on simplicity and serenity.

Tea for all

Contemporary tea pavilion London, United Kingdom 2013

Master project 2 ‘Tea for two’ Master architecture, building and planning Technische Universiteit Eindhoven ir. W. Hilhorst ir. J.P.M. Swagten

A contemporary tea pavilion that is in various ways strongly continuous with its context. It almost seems to dissolve into its environment.

The transparent ground floor and reflective first floor contribute to a strong perceptual continuity between the pavilion and it’s context. The reflective louvres allow people to perceptually create a continuity between inside and outside the pavilion.

Perceptual continuity between inside and outside due to fragmented images, created by reflective louvres.

Elements like the cantilevering drainage contribute to the expression of this ‘non-building’.

Characteristics of a village, joined on a ‘small’ footprint into an autakric tower.

On the large scale the tower has a simplistic appearance of stacked wooden panels. On the smaller scale there is a continuity between the interior and exterior. In various ways the environment becomes part of the residence.
