Unincoroprated communities are regions of land that do not have their own government
Adamant, Vermont is an unincorporated community in the town of Calais, Vermont in Washington County. It is on the town line between Calais and East Montpelier. There is no true boundary that defines the village. Because of its lack of this, there is often debate in what makes one a resident of Adamant. There is a common saying that goes: "Adamant is a state of mind". Adamant was once a granite-quarry town named Sodom, but residents petitioned the State Government for the name change in 1905. Today one can find the heart of Adamant at the Adamant Co-op which is both a general store and post office. It was founded in 1935 and is the oldest Co-op in the state. There is also Adamant Music School founded in 1942
