t’s to the millionths of an inch and better at Vermont Precision Tools, Inc. It’s that precision that has earned the company the reputation that has drawn business world wide and why its customer base has proved so loyal that the company now employs almost 250 people at two plants, one in Kentucky, the other, at its life long home and headquarters, in Swanton, Vermont. The company was founded in 1968 by Norman C. Leduc and Raymond R. Boutin, with the vision being the need to satisfy an exacting consumer demand for precision tooling; knock-out pins, ejector pins, special punches, or virtually any small precision tooling. Its high standards meet the demands of both the medical tooling and automotive markets – two of the company’s leading business sectors.

At Jay Peak, the last day of skiing was the last day of April; four days later the 18-hole championship golf course was open. That’s life at Jay Peak. Meanwhile, the Pump House water park was entertaining its 180,000th customer [since its opening December, 2011.] Our world-class hockey rink [The Ice Haus Arena] continues to attract an international audience. The new Hotel Jay is in full swing with suites overlooking the waterpark,

and conference space, and weddings, being booked well into the future. Jay Peak has been the largest construction project in Vermont; and, according to Jay Peak CEO and coowner Bill Stenger, the resort is only mid-way in its plans to build the most inviting four-season resort in New England.
What’s next for this year? ... renovation of the sky house, located at the top of Jay Peak. ... the building with the administrative offices [the white building at the base of the area] will be turned into a Vermont country store with full retail offerings. The upstairs area will be turned into a family entertainment center. … a new 84-unit hotel on Stateside will open Dec. 2013. First class. The T-bar will be removed and a new quad chair will be built going up to just below the Taxi run. … a medical center will be built to accommodate general needs, including orthopedic specialists. … a wedding chapel will be built to handle Jay Peak’s growing reputation as a place to get married. … a Mountain Learning Center will be put in place and operational by next skiing season. Coming soon: the opening of the West Bowl, a skier’s paradise. It’s no wonder Jay Peak is regarded as the hottest four season resort property in all of New England.

Ray’s
Extrusion Dies & Tubing Ray’s Dies and Tubing had its humble start 52 years ago, the brainchild of local entrepreneur Raymond Gadue, Sr. who saw the need for a die insert for a wire coating machine. With a $5 shaft of an old outboard motor, some elbow grease and patience he created a company whose extrusion dies were sent all over the world. In 1965 his son, Ray Jr. joined the team and he assumed control after his father died in 1977. He and his wife, Eileen, began a program of controlled growth and worked from the basement of their home. Today, they operate out of a 22,000 square foot facility in Highgate and Ray’s Extrusion Dies and Tubing has established a world-wide reputation for its pioneering in “centerless grinding” of intricate stainless steel tubing. The tubing is so intricate, and so exact, that it is used in operating rooms across the world. It is used in exploratory procedures to diagnose heart problems, and for the more complicated surgeries. The tubing is used to thread through the body’s arteries, meaning it needs to be extraordinarily smooth and the inside diameter as small as .0015 of an inch. The medical industry is the recipient of much of Ray’s Dies and Tubing product and, occasionally, they hear stories of famous people their products have helped. Mother Teresa, for example, was treated for her arterial blockages using the products crafted at their Highgate facility. They create products that are used in the making of catheters, stents, diagnostic probes, electrodes and other devices. Their machines are some of the world’s most sophisticated, which allows them to suggest that if “you can dream about it, we can make it.” Ray and Eileen Gadue, although still active in the business, passed their bustling enterprise along to their son Kevin, who is president and who has worked in the business since he was 12, and their daughter, Lori, who is vice president. They employ approximately 30 employees.

Over 100 Years of Ceramic Technology SINCE 1898
Superior Technical Ceramics Corporation was the first company in 1975 to find its way into the now well populated St. Albans Town Industrial Park Complex. The company has an impressive history starting all the way back to 1898. Our company name at that time was M. Kirchberger and Co. We were known as a lighting fixture import house. Precision machined soapstone was used to build customized acetylene burner nozzle assemblies to help direct acetylene flames into miner’s lamps, antique chandeliers and first generation portable lighting. The company’s name was changed to Superior Steatite and Ceramics Corporation in 1945. We began producing more complex shapes and sizes of steatite based compositions used primarily in radio tubes, wire wound resistors for electronic devices and other general appliance ceramics. Superior Steatite relocated from New York City to New Jersey in 1953. The company began producing a high tech ceramic material known as “alumina”. This paved the way for supplying more sophisticated components to the welding and wear industries that all needed the alumina based materials for its strength and wear resistance. The company decided to relocate to its current location in 1975. The location was selected in part for easy access to natural gas which is the primary power source requirement for the very high temperature heat treating of nearly all of our ceramic materials. In addition, the owners of the business were avid skiers and had strong social ties to the Sugarbush Valley where they would soon establish one of their homes. Superior Steatite became Superior Technical Ceramics Corporation in 1985 adopting “STC” as the now well recognized company logo. The new

name more accurately reflected the highly technical nature of our expanding materials business and associated market share. During the next nearly 20 years, STC would expand the existing landmark building several times and acquire a second building across the street which would also be expanded to nearly twice its original size. The workforce would nearly triple from 1975 to 2012 as the business experienced a most impressive and steady growth. An amazing collection of talent from both the local area and across the country is just one of the reasons for our continuing success in a most competitive environment. STC believes that a strong growing company needs to reinvest in both its people and its equipment. We have shown that over more than 37 years here in Franklin County. Our reputation in the industry for high quality, on time delivery and “superior” technical support and customer service is second to none. This sets us apart from many of the other companies claiming to produce similar components into the competitive world wide market place. STC supplies components into many diverse industries world wide. These include aerospace, telecommunications, defense, plasma, welding, laser, semiconductor, oil and gas, wear, industrial ignition, thermal barrier, cyclonic separation, green energy and many more. We appreciate the overwhelming support received from the local and surrounding communities. Our nearly 140 employees are working hard to continue the rich 115 year legacy. It is one of our goals to help maintain the reputation of St. Albans, Vermont as a location for some very high tech manufacturing activity.

There’s something for everyone “in the neighborhood.” The Company, family-owned and operated, was founded in Massachusetts in 1908 by William E. Creating a
stronger community one person at a time.
EIGHT STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT - There are eight stages of development during a person’s life.* The life cycle begins with the infant stage and progresses to toddler/early childhood, followed by the preschooler and school-aged child stages, growing into adolescents then transitioning into young adult, followed by middle-age adult and finally, the older adult stage. Each stage of development is marked by conflict for which a successful resolution will result in a favorable outcome. No matter what stage of development someone is in, it’s comforting to know that you can turn to Northwestern Counseling & Support Services (NCSS) in your time of need. NCSS provides intervention and a continuum of support to individuals experiencing emotional and behavioral problems, mental illness and developmental disabilities. * According to Erik Erikson (1902-1994), a noted Danish-German-American developmental psychologist, every person must pass through a series of eight interrelated stages over the entire life cycle.
The NCSS Leadership Team consists of:
Todd Bauman Children, Youth & Family Services Director
Stephen Broer, Psy.D. Behavioral Health Services Director
Jean Danis Gilmond Developmental Services Director
Joe Halko Community Relations Director
Ted J. Mable, Ed.D. Executive Director
